Rough Trade Records - Beware Before Ordering
I have ordered from the Rough Trade Records UK and US websites at least a hundred times. Never had any serious problems. They have decent customer service and have always replaced any defective products quickly. Just saying. Oh, and BTW, you can t...
Advice needed: Have 2 Power Cables only need 1 - Which is better?
There is no better or worse. Choosing a heavier gauge for higher power demands always makes sense. You would never be able to tell one from the other in any kind of blind A-B testing. The build quality may differ slightly, and usability can vary -...
DAC 'Scam' Vid
This video is completely accurate. The plain truth. One would hope common sense would make it painfully obvious that beyond a certain point of build quality and parts (P/S in particular), the rest is B.S. Level match a properly working $1k DAC and...
Shakti Stone
Go grab an old brick from the backyard (it must be a red brick!), clean it thoroughly, then paint it blue (you must paint it blue, and use at least three coats), and you’ve now got a great substitute for a Shakti Stone at a fraction of the price. ...
And the biggest influence on sound quality is...
Your room. The least sexy part of the process unless you can afford to hire a pro to do the whole thing for you. Most tweaks make micro differences, room treatment  is a macro difference. Huge in most cases.
The DAC Scam - Almost everyone believes the hype
So much of life is suggestion and predisposition, and this, is mostly that. The video tells you the truth. But beauty matters, build quality matters, parts quality every step of the way matters. So I don't agree that in a "good" system there's not...
Power cord
When you first change out a single cable on your system you may hear some immediate differences, or, you may think you're hearing differences. It depends upon you and your susceptibility to placebo effect and confirmation bias. This is why you nee...
SR Tuning Discs, Psychoacoustic Bias and Listening Fatigue
@hce1 -- Thank you. Apology accepted. I have been an audiophile for nearly my entire life, purely for the love of music. I have tried many types of tweaks over the years with an open mind -- always an open mind. My policy is to live with a system ...
SR Tuning Discs, Psychoacoustic Bias and Listening Fatigue
@hce1 - I never intended to denigrate anyone with my criticisms, and looking at what I wrote, I can't see where I did that. I know for a fact that some cable companies are in fact making obscene margins with very questionable product claims. This ...
SR Tuning Discs, Psychoacoustic Bias and Listening Fatigue
@hce1 -- There's all kinds of bias, including group bias. I'm just saying that without any empirical corroboration, many of these tweaks that rely upon untested pseudoscience are more likely confirmation bias and/or placebo effect than anything el...
??? Fuse UpGrade??What Size???
Does anyone seriously believe that the makers of high-end amps or whatever would cheap-out on the freaking fuses knowing that by doing so they would be seriously diminishing the sound quality of a product that they had spent countless hours develo...
SR Tuning Discs, Psychoacoustic Bias and Listening Fatigue
Who knows if the discs really make any difference? But negative bias is far less likely than good old positive confirmation bias and the venerable placebo effect. What bothers me is that many of these products have stratospheric profit margins bec...
Aliexpress Marketplace practices, be for warned.
I’m torn about this. On the one hand we have legit cable companies selling their wares with (in some cases), literally, astronomical markups. On the other hand we have shameless copycats on AliExpress selling knockoff cables for orders of magnitud...
Quick question for the Cables Don't Make a Difference Crowd.
Bad question-- assumes absolutes when there are none. I'll bet, you will never be able to rank a set of different cables by price even if one cable costs $200 (a reasonable price for a high quality build and materials cable) and a $10,000 cable. ...
Ebay selling my missing amplifier
@snook2 is, IMHO, without a doubt trolling, or is willfully hiding key facts that, if known, would have ended this thread long ago. He has willfully chosen to not answer a slew of important well-intentioned questions by myself and others in this p...
