Thiel Owners
tomthielThe first time I ever heard a Thiel speaker was at Havens and Hardesty in Seal Beach, CA. Somebody from Thiel was there, just trying to convince Mr. Hardesty to carry them, which they did, soon after. I was blown away by the specificity of...

tomthielHello Tom, this is Sandy. Your explanation of the single most important limitation with the 3.5 explains two questions that have been bothering me for the past few years.1) I NEVER had any problem with coping with dynamics, when the CS3.5 ...
Thiel Owners
I have something to add about having owned Thiel CS3.5 speakers for over 30 years. I have quite a few friends that remember my system with these speakers as being the best system that they every heard anywhere, including CES and other audio shows....

Even I suspected that I was crazy to spend as much on power tubes as on the entire purchase of the amps. Particularly since, as ARC’s only amps ever made for full triode operation, these amps make a measly 120 wpc with the 16 power tubes. All othe...

The ARC amps were just "quite good" with the stock Russian tubes. I really splurged, and bought 16 (8 per channel) NOS (and really new, never used) Tungsol 6550 tubes, USA made in the 1950s, for $175 each. And, WOW, they sound like different amps ...

thannotopis321I remember that the Aragon amps sounded very good with my Thiel speakers, too.

Tom Thiel and Harrylavo:Hello Tom, this is my first post in this forum. I have been posting only in the SteveHoffman.tv forums for the past few years. Today, I just found out that you are here. So, here I am too.During the decades of owning my Thi...
Thiel owners please chime in.
From what Roger Majeski of Music Reference, and others have advised me, choosing the technically correct tap only maximizes the efficiency of signal transfer from amp to speaker. So the speakers can get louder when the "correct"tap is chosen. But,...
Review: Fritz Carrera BE speakers
I am an Audio Note dealer in Fullerton, CA (Orange County, near Los Angeles). See my website, www.TheAudioHome.com.Fritz dropped off a pair of his Fritz Carrera BE speakers for me to hear,  and I am trying not to give them back to him now. They ho...
Is a Power Wedge 116 any good?
In my opinion,  the relative sonic benefits from various power conditioners depend heavily on the power supply designs within the equipment you are using. There is no consistent answer to "which conditionernis better". I have compared many, and th...
How many will listen to tape and vinyl in the next century?
Please add me to the pool of audio enthusiasts who love the sound of analog: vinyl and tape just sounds better than ANY music that has been polluted by digital. We believe there will ALWAYS be a series of comebacks for analog. It will come and go ...
Best REEL TO REEL blank tape?
Nobody has added a response to this thread for 5 years. But it still comes up on Google as the first search result for "Best Reel Tape". So how about the latest ideas about which tapes are worth searching for, either used on Ebay or current produc...
Bookshelf Speakers; Ported vs. Acoustic Suspension
For the same size cabinet, Bass reflex has output to a lower frequency but its frequency response is less linear. In other words, bass reflex has a peak near its roll-off frequency and a dip above that. So, if you are going to have a suboofer, you...
Why do digital cables sound different?
As usual, when I explain audio cables, I remind everyone first exactly what is "the scientific method". As an engineer myself, trained in science, I don't try to explain anything until AFTER I have conducted a test, using my senses and my powers o...
Has any one compared Monarchy 22b/c & Benchmark
I would like to hear about ANY comparison of a Monarchy DAC to something else. What is the Monarchy lacking, compared to state-of-the-art digital?
