Magnepan 3.7 - 3.7i owners need help please
After you've done your break in, if you are still not happy with the sound, I would first experiment with placement of the speakers and toe in.  Like any fine speaker, placement is everything and they might end up being placed a fair amount differ...
Do you clean your records before play, after play, or once (and then never again)?
I clean records once on a good record cleaner:  I own a VPI 16.5 but have used an Audiodeske at work (at an audio/video specialist).  New as well as used ones should be cleaned in my opinion as there are lubricants used in the record manufacturing...
VTL 7.5 Owners
I have had my 7.5-II for about 3+ years now and so far haven't found anything as musical or neutral or revealing as it under 20K. I have owned the Levinson #32 and the Audio Research REF3 and find the VTL superior to each in most ways. I recently ...
How Much Bearing Oil In LP12
Extremephono's answer above is NOT correct! If anything, the newer Cirkus kit takes MORE oil than the old bearing well--about 40 drops or so. Linn says to put almost all of the small vial they provide in until it spills out onto a tissue you've wr...
Mark Levinson No.512 CD Player---Opinions
On a slightly different note, I was wondering if anyone has heard the 512 compared to either the previous flagship model, the #51 or the famed Meridian 808.2. No one I've queried, including reps with Levinson or Meridian seem to have ever done eit...
Question about Meridian 808
There is indeed a 808-2 that will be out any time. Working for a dealer, I have heard both and altho the new series 2 is an improvement, it certainly does not embarrass the first one, which is an excellent player! The new one is also 15K in price,...
Does the Mark Levinson 331 suck?
Hi Kevin. I've owned a 331 and other Levinson amps after that and none of them sucked. The 331 is not the very best available, but it beats most of what's out there. I see several problems with your system: the biggest is probably your room--remem...
Levinson 332 amp with the B&W Signature 800?
I don't find the 800's inherently bright, but they COULD be if used with the wrong combination of components. I have not heard the Accuphase piece, but I know that the Linn amps have a leaner "brighter" or "livelier" timbre or balance than, say th...
Levinson 332 amp with the B&W Signature 800?
I have owned all of the above equipment you've mentioned and yes, the 332 OR the 335 will easily power the B&W 800's to fairly loud levels without too much trouble. A better question would be which would sound better. The 800's, being as good ...
Most "Non-Digital" Sounding CDP
The LINN CD12 is the most "analog", NON digital CD player I've ever auditioned by a long shot. A must hear, even if you can't afford it!
Is upgrade from Mark Levinson 36 to 360S worth it?
I'll second Craig's response above--the 360S in a top notch system will make the 36 sound broken by comparison--much smoother and less "grainy" sounding. Much more inner detail and subtleties also in the 360s. You won't regret it one second!
Performance of the Mark Levinson 360S
I have a 360S and it would be a big step forward from your DV37 by itself. The problem is you would then have a top notch system with an average transport at least compared to the level of quality elsewhere in your system. Consider a #37 Levinson ...
Levinson 37/360s vs Levinson 39 cd player
I've owned both a 39 and use a 360S with a Proceed PMDT and have used a 37 with it as well. I'd give the two piece combo a solid "A" overall and the 39 a "B+". The newer 390S rates a bit higher--perhaps a "A-". Haven't heard the EC but they went o...
Speakers causing problems with TV
Sounds like your unshielded speakers have slowly magnetized your TV tube. First, Move the speakers at least a foot or two away. Next, try turning the TV on and off several times. Most have an auto-demag circuit in them that works when turned on. I...
speakers bottoming out
It could also be your amp is too SMALL! Contrary to popular belief, most speaker problems, suchas your bottoming out, or blowing speakers is caused by too LITTLe of an amp. You may need more clean power! Also, do you have the bass cranked up or th...
