Opinions on the Oracle Delphi V's performance?
I found it kind of dead-sounding (over dampened), but this was in a dealer demol with THEIR cartridge and THEIR phono stage. IMHO the cart and phono stage interaction are 80% of the sound of a record player, so I dont think this bears huge implica...
Michell Gyro Mk II AC or DC?
Alan,I have a stock Gyro SE DC Motor. So is this "upgrade" a new motor and power supply??? Does it come with new belts???My unit is a plug into a transformer which is 5x2x2 and then a 4 foot cable up to the motor (a disconnecting cable coupler is ...
Opinions on the Oracle Delphi V's performance?
Oracle Delphi V is an older design, but has it's charms, especially looks. In my auditioning it was darker (perhaps due to the suspension choices), but frankly, this could also be due to cartridge and arm choice.Scoutmaster has recenlty been upgra...
Outstanding setup where do I begin?
Hey, given a void of answers....IMHO one of the biggest things would be the input impedence matching from the phono sys to the cartridge.Definitely you would generally not want to run a phono preamp into Phono In on a preamp or integrated amp. If ...
I need help selecting a tube amp
Cary V12 will do the trick (CAD280). 50 WPC in Triode. Lovely sound. You can drive KT88s if you really want to, but that may be too tight for your speakers. Good luck.
Cable Costs Relative to System
Metaphysics started this chat in 2001 and hasn't posted in 4 years. Wow, this is the longest thread i've ever seen.Anyway, after I had great speakers ($7k silverlines) and tube amps ($6k of Cary tubes) and sources ($5k turntable, $5k CD player), t...
The most beautiful Integrated Tube amp?
Woah, that Pharo tube amp is amazing in the (doctored?) photos. Fr 24,500 that is French francs (now obsoleted by the Euro). That's about $3,500 US.I'll stick with my Cary v12 separate.

Do you listen to your heart or your eye?
It's a proven fact that better looking speakers have dramatically improved imaging and midrange response. Speakers with a curvy appearance generally have a much warmer sound to them with more bloom. Boxy speakers are almost always "faster" soundin...
Speakers for 50W Triode tube amp
Silverline Sonata Mk II. Awesome imaging and full range response. I drive with Cary V12 50W triode. magic.
Shure V15V cartridge. Worth investing in?
Of course the counterpoint to Jame's point is that if you go with a moving coil, you'd better have a phono stage that can amplify it. If not, you may have to upgrade that too. MCs usually have much lower output.I'm very pleased with my Clearaudio ...
Girlfriends and wifes, how do YOU cope?
Give the wife more back rubs while listening to the equips never fails. She will encourage you to buy more.
John Dunlavy On "Cable Nonsense"
Apparently the way to measure these things is with a nice high end digital oscilliscope with storage and analsysis capabilities.
My first impression of the Nordost Valhallas.
Danielk141, if you buy a $40K joule electra tube amp or similar mated to $40K -$80K of Wilson speakers etc. then the valhallahs are only 20% - 10% of the price of the components. Easily within your rule.
Speaker Cables, One side longer- bad idea?
Different length cables will not affect sound much. Speed of light (even at 90%) through cables less than about 1 mile long won't have any audible effect on phase between both channels.it's really the inductance and impedance of the cable that wil...
