Help Choosing Speakers
If it hasn't been suggested already, look at the Decware site's white papers, particularly the papers referring to room acoustics and setup. In my square room I had trouble getting any realistic imaging, and this was with a pair of Thiel CS1.6 spe...
Help Choosing Speakers
In a room that size, my experience says look for a pair of monitors or a tower with two drivers. My room is 12x12x8 and the problem I have with three or four way speakers is getting enough distance between ears and speakers for proper driver integ...
What do audiophiles want from a cable?
Perfection is not an option. No cable exists that passes information exactly as it is transmitted. Therefore, people tune the sound of their system to suit their musical tastes. Whether they decide to use gear (speakers, amps, sources) to tune the...
What do audiophiles want from a cable?
I want my cables to pass the signal from one component to the next exactly as it was transmitted. Can't understand how anyone would want anything different. Guess I'm not an audiophile.
Class D Technology
I'm not going to list them all, but I've owned quite a few. I stopped with the almighty NCore amps. They almost always sound impressive at first listen, clean, quiet, and cool running. For me though, they begin to show their true sound after a mon...
Potential Tax Liability
With the reduced staffing at the IRS, unless you're identified as high risk for an audit, there's little reason to sweat it.
B&K amp differences
I owned an ST-2140 a while ago and thought it was great for the money (used). If you look at the internals of their amps it's hard to see much difference within similar power ratings. If I were buying one I'd look for the most recent model, unless...
Bottlehead vs. Audionote Kits
I've built a Crack and a Quickie preamp. The process is lot's of fun and the products sound great. I never would've guessed the elcheapo Quickie would sound as good as it did. I had trouble with my crack build and the support from Bottlehead forum...
Amps which are Great, but either Unknown or Underpriced
Find an old Hafler D-220, or one of the pro versions of the 220, clean it up and install John Hillig's mods from Musical Design. Sounds great, will probably outlive you, and is fun to do.
HK pre-amp
Ideally the matching HK-870 would be my choice.

Tell Us about an Album That Took a Long Time to Grow on You
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - Let Love In for me. I bought this album many years ago and after a couple listens put it away. Can't recall what got me back into Cave but over the last few years he has become one of my favorites. I went back and lis...

Any thoughts on the Bel Canto M 300 amps? Red Dragon M1000 MK II ?
I have owned both the Bel Canto M300 and S300. I think they sound great and love the simple, understated look. I also have owned and still do own the PS Audio Trio A-100 amp. These amps use the same ICE modules and have a near identical sound. The...
Outboard crossover? Why not?
Early Meadowlark Audio models had the crossover located outside the speaker proper. You can remove a little panel under the speaker and get to the xover if you want to mod it.
