Silverline Sonata MK.lll overall sound
Cavy,IMO, sounds like a software issue, specifically the poor mastering job performed on some of your cds:"On some of my cd's they are spectacular, and on others they sound thin on the tonal balance. There appears to be a upper treble glare (brigh...
Sub or Subs to mate with Sonus Faber Amati Homage
Hi,Can't help you with Sub recommendations, as I've never used one. I have owned the Amati for years, and used them successfully in large rooms (10000 cubic feet) and small rooms (13'x16'x9').Bass in the cavernous loft was deep and tight. To optim...
Manley Steelhead tube rolling
Hi Rec,I never rolled the tubes, but I did get substantial benefits out of using Halo-O tube dampers on all the tubes -- quieter, tighter, better dynamics. You might want to try it out.Cheers,Tom
Avalon Opus without bass ?
Hi,Have you looked at taming the bass resonance with some bass traps? Also, try to move your speakers a little further apart, and further from the wall behind the speakers.Since you seem to like the sound of the speakers with your rig, I'd solve t...
Difference between SME20/2 and SME30/2
Chris,I hear you. Had the vinyl rig in storage for several months as I moved into a new home. Congratulations on the acquisitions. That's a mighty fine rig. What biscuit do you plan on spinning first (after the HFNRR disc)?Tom
Difference between SME20/2 and SME30/2
Oxborne,While I don't have the 30, I do have the 20/2. There is a way to approximate the performance of the 30 with the 20, which is by using the the clearaudio outer stabilizer ring. This adds those characteristics which most people seem to attrib...
Tenor 75Wp monos & Amati Homage
Andrew,As a Tenor/Amati owner, I recommend you put the rig on a 20AMP circuit, with power cords suitable for 750W loads, such as the Elrod EPS-3S, Synergistic Des Ref Squared, or the Anacondas. Those Tenors love big cords ;)Look forward to hear wh...
The Fastest most musical amp
Give the Spectral 360 monoblocks a shot. For tubes, the Tenors are really special -- "fast" yet not clinical or edgy.BTW; why do you think MIT cables "slow up the sound". Have you heard them in a Spectral system? I've used the Oracle V2 UWB in an ...
Tenor 75Wp monos & Amati Homage
Should read 18,000 cubic feet. In addition, compared to the P-10s, the Amati's are much more efficient. Those last 3.5 db make a big difference to keep the amp/speaker combination in a more comfortable operating range.
Tenor 75Wp monos & Amati Homage
Tenor-->Amati combination is magical. Clarity, passion, soul. Very satisfying.I owned both, and used them in the same system. It is very room dependent and type of music. I sold the Tenors since I was in a 1300 square foot loft, with 14 foot ce...
"Best" cable elevators?
Non-DIY recommendation: "Cable Elevators" from audionut.com -- work great, with a very clean look. $160 for a set of 8. Use them myself. You can use the side indentations for additional wires or power cords.http://www.audionut.com/pk4/store.pl?vie...
EAR V20 question maybe tubes question?
Hi,V20 is a great integrated. I've used one for quite a while in my second system.- Scratching/hiss sounds like a bad tube. Does it come from only one side? If so, begin swapping tubes one at a time from one side to the other to determine the culp...
Synergistic Res. PC's, UpgradeI to X series?
I went with the new active, x-series verison of the master coupler on the MCC. I was really surprised at the difference.
Synergistic Res. PC's, UpgradeI to X series?
Yes,There is a substantial improvement in upgrading to the active, X-Series, power cords. I have upgraded or replaced the following (Master Coupler, Res Ref MK II, Des Ref Squared). In all cases, there is a lower noise floor, more transient inform...
Tube or SS for Sonus Faber Amati Homage
Davidlin,As a long-time owner of the Amati's, I'd recommend tubes -- I'd also add that you need to give a serious listen/consideration to the Tenors (more below).IMO, the Amatis sound wonderful with any quality amp, but really sing and make magic ...
