Kef LS50s - great like me but need to come up for air
I know you said you wanted to stay at $1500, but I got a pair of Alta Audio Rhea's on Ebay for $2500 to replace my LS50's and it was just what the doctor ordered: more relaxed but still great imaging and detail. And 10 or 15 hz more bass response....
a remarkably basic question about Roon
I thought I would never use the DSP capabilities of Roon.  But then I bought a pair of Sennheiser 800 headphones and learned that smarter people than me have figured out 'convolution filters' to bring the playback frequency response closer to idea...
Class D for a Tube Lover
Having owned both, I would say the PS Audio M700 monoblock's are a big step up from the S300 and are pretty darn good (esp. for the money). Tube-like is sometimes said about them, but I wouldn't go quite that far. But I would say that they are qui...
Coda Tech Amplifier
The CODA website does have contact information and a dealer list.  I called and talked to someone who seemed to be one of the principals on Monday (3/8/21). I'm guessing it was the above-mentioned Doug.  He was very willing to answer all my questi...
iPad Mini as control device for network player
One thing to be aware of: older iPad mini’s may not be able to run current versions of the software you want to use. I had a first generation mini that I was using to control my Auralic streamer (with the Auralic Lightning software). At some point...
Researching an "affordable Roon server/streamer, and my choice...
Innuos Zen 3 works fine as both Roon server and Roon endpoint as long as you don’t want to do a lot of digital processing or upsampling.  I’m listening to mine right now, and it sounds great.  One limitation is that its only outputs are USB and Et...
Streaming for beginner
Many posters here seem to be ignoring the fact that the OP has purchased a DAC and disc player that each cost several thousand dollars (used) and that he wants sound quality as good as CD’s played through his current equipment.  I think this requi...
Moving up from a Node 2i
If you could find a used Lumin U1 mini (lists for $2K), that might do the job.  I think there's one for sale here on Audiogon.
Which type of cable sounds best for Streamer to DAC: AES/EBU or DIGITAL COAX or USB ??
In my setup, too, AES/EBU seems quite a bit better than USB.  I'm connecting an Auralic Aries streamer to a PS Audio Directstream DAC with modest cables (Curious for USB and DH Labs for AES/EBU).  I strongly suspect, though, that Jazzman7 is right...
dissapointed - new LS50w's vs old PioneerFS52's/Luxman R113 - so far Kef's not so great?
Unless the 'W' above is a mistake, the OP has the wireless version of the LS50's with built-in amplification, so I don't think the problem is lack of power.  Personally, I lived with the original, passive LS50's for a year or so, upgraded virtuall...
Another Music Direct Catalog observation
Thanks for those links Oregonpapa.  I'd heard of Jo Stafford but that was my first listen to her voice.  Wow.
$1300-1500 DAC
Another vote for Audio Mirror Tubadour.
Which Class D Amplifier? PS Audio, Ghent, Nord, Merrill or other???
Just for the benefit of those who are not familiar with PS Audio’s business model:  They have a trade-in program where they discount the product you are buying by the original MSRP of the product you are trading in, up to a limit which is about 30...
Equipment Rack Between Speakers...Good or Bad
These experiments are not so easy to do! Mainly because moving multicomponent audio racks around is not easy but also because I have to change several things at once to accommodate different positions. Which rather complicates the comparisons for ...
High end Cables not important for certain electronics?
FWIW I did post my question to the "Ask the Experts" forum at PS Audio.  A couple of experts (Ted Smith, designer of the Directstream DAC ,and Galen Gareis, longtime Belden cable engineer and designer of Iconoclast Cables) have weighed in.  I've l...
