Allnic H-1201 Cartridge loading?
Yes. I like to listen in the dark and those little lights are bright? One piece of electrical tape wasn’t enough. Needed to double up and even then, I could still see the mute button through the doubled up tape. Enjoy the Allnic. Since you bought ...
Ideal design for a new music room
I am no expert but in my there are advantages to having a dedicated listening room in the basement. Advantages:1) No large windows, if any at all.2) Concrete floor.3) More design flexibility than if the room was in a more public area of the home. ...
Don't buy Allnic H1201 phono stage new.
It is likely that the new version will be almost $2000 more than what I paid for my H1201. For some people this will be fine but for me, it is too much of a price difference.
Don't buy Allnic H1201 phono stage new.
I just bought a new one with the full knowledge that a replacement was coming. I got an amazing deal on the unit, which is far less than what the replacement will cost. No doubt the superlatives for new over old will be extensive but that’s okay, ...
Is it true records are sealed to look better....
SOME vendors will indeed spray something on used records to make the surface look shiny and with fewer imperfections. I have heard thatsome use Armor All! Ack.New records have nothing on them except mold release agent. I clean all new records befo...
The nightmare of the cartridge buyer...

What separate tube phono stage do you use ?
Just bought an Allnic H1201 to replace an iPhono II. Seems to work well with my Purpleheart. I think the H1201 is being upgraded/replaced, as I bought mine new for an attractive price, the dealer saying it was being replaced in the lineup.
The nightmare of the cartridge buyer...
@orpheus10 thanks for the link. I have a different take on the state of high end audio that is largely demographic/cultural. First, it is worth pointing out that the article in the link is very US centric. Are we talking about the decline of the h...
The nightmare of the cartridge buyer...
@br3098 thanks for a dealer perspective. It is easy to have biases based on (limited by) personal experience. I live in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). One of the best analog guys in our area is an easy 30 minute drive for me. What do you believe ...
The nightmare of the cartridge buyer...
@larryi you bet or you know? Two quite different things. Look, maybe there is room for some middle ground both on the part of the manufacturer and the dealer. Honestly, if I was an artisinal cartridge maker, as many high end makers are, I would se...
The nightmare of the cartridge buyer...
@larryi, I am interested in what works best for us, the customers, and less what works best for the dealers. As long as we as customers accept the status quo, there will be no change. To be clear, I think the manufacturers need to shoulder much of...
The nightmare of the cartridge buyer...
I still think high end cartridge manufacturers should be prepared to provide demo carts in their main markets. Huge leap of faith purchasing a $5K cartridge without hearing it in your system first. Let’s face it: a $5K cartridge is a luxury good. ...
The nightmare of the cartridge buyer...
I would add to my above post that if you decide to buy a cartridge after auditioning the demo, the dealer should refund the cost of the tech incurred for the demo.
The nightmare of the cartridge buyer...
In reading the thread, I have tried to think of a better way to improve the buying process. I really like the idea of a trip to Japan for “free” to buy a cartridge! But probably not realistic for many. Putting aside comments on prices, I think rep...
