What the Best Dac have you heard or owned. How could you tell it was that good.
I have a Ladder Schumann r2r ladder dac I’m very fond of. It has a beautiful wide and deep soundstage, detailed yet never edgy. I bought it used and to me, best bargain in my system.
Terry DeWick has passed
I bought from Tom Manley. One of the items (MC2002) had a fuse/power problem. Tom provides a warranty but it had expired. I shipped it to Terry on Tom’s direction. I couldn’t believe how little he wanted to fix it. It was an altogether pleasant tr...
Here's to the temperate, the gentle, the moderates in audio
I like watching all of the YT guys listed. Randy “Cheapaudioman” cracks me up. He’s a funny guy. Tarun, IIWI, Steve G, NRD. Just Audio is commercial but with humor and honesty.
New Speaker advice
I had the F36. In my room they were awful. I have vintage McIntosh MC2155. It’s warmer rather than neutral. They were so forward and scooped out in the midrange . I could never get them to settle down. I had to move them for .50 after 6 months.
"The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down".
If you give consideration to live performances or albums, give a listen to The Band’s “Rock Of Ages”. Recorded years before “The Last Waltz” on the cusp of 1972 in Brooklyn. Horn section added for the performances gave them a whole new element. Th...
Robbie Robertson has passed away :-(
After hearing Rock of Ages, I burned through multiple copies. The horn arrangements put that album over the top. Listen to “King Harvest (has surely come). The vocals and the horns send you back to the 1930s and “the depression”.    I was in my l...
RIP Robbie Robertson
Rock of Ages is one of the best live rock albums ever. The horn arrangements by Allan Toussaint was an added element that put that record over the top.
Speaker that are 'KEEPERS" for the long haul!!!
I bought ADS L710 in 1979. Still have them. 44 years. Just bought MoFi Sourcepoint 8s. Fantastically special and punchy. I won’t live another 44 years but I’ll keep these until I can’t hear.
Is there a ceiling limit on what you are willing to pay for an audio component?
I usually just lurk but I found this topic is interesting to me I felt like commenting. I’m 70 years old. Since the pandemic I’ve gotten back into the hobby. I’ve purchased vintage McIntosh with two systems. I spent no more than $1800 per componen...
Hidden Gems in Classic Rock Albums
@mwinkc  I’m totally with you on Holland. Sail On Sailor and California on side one. Side two is a classic. The Trader, Funky Pretty, Leaving This Town, all fantastic. The vinyl version I have is poorly recorded.
What's your experience with snooty HiFi salesmen?
@richopp  I had read Sound Advice had gone out of business. I left S. Fl in 1980. I appreciate those guys (meaning Sound Advice) might have been arrogant. I rarely went to Boca as I would have loved to have seen your store. I tried to go to and l...
What's your experience with snooty HiFi salesmen?
@richopp  I lived in Ft Lauderdale in the 70s. What was your store? I bought my first hifi system in ‘73. Well, it was hifi to me. All I could afford was a Nikko receiver, Smaller Advents, Garrard turntable that I bought from the first Sound Advi...
100% USA designed & made DAC
Geshelli is really top notch. $250 and it blow my mind. I have an Ares II and I considering selling.
