I've gotten two private emails asking the same question, so I should probably add: I'm running Windows XP on a dedicated (NOTHING else on this computer) P4 running at 2.0 Ghz, 700+ MB RAM, and 80Ghz HD. It's got a sound card that supports 24/96, b...

If this is incorrectly quoted, please excuse. Q: How many audiophiles does it take to change a lightbulb? A: One to change the bulb, and thirty-three and a third more to praise the merits of candles.
What is the best Beatle Song
"The End", Abbey Road, 'cuz after that they had the good sense to go their seperate ways, and not become the regurgitated, embarrassing, has-beens we see all too often today.

Adding a phono stage component ? Advice needed
Hey, one last idea (man, I gotta get a life- this flu is killing me!). You mentioned earlier that you were looking for a phono pre- in the $500-$600 range. Why not start another thread asking just this exact question, particularly from people with...
Adding a phono stage component ? Advice needed
One thing I can help you with now is to suggest you stay away from the Rotel. I tried one myself in my old Adcom setup (which was a GFP555II, not a GFA..) and found it to be too noisy. For instance, when I turned my preamp to the input served by t...
Adding a phono stage component ? Advice needed
As per above... "You will note that phono preamps are very expensive..."I wonder what south_park considers to be "very expensive". Everything is relative, and reasonably good, quiet, entry-level phono preamps can be purchased new for around $300, ...
Adding a phono stage component ? Advice needed
Hey Zenieth- what did you end up doing? Audioman4 gave you some great advice, what with the Needle Doctor recomendation and all. Personally, I've got it good 'cuz Jerry Raskin himself helped me out when my old Adcom system (since replaced) needed ...
Review: B&W CDM-1nt Monitor
Wholeheartedly agree on the need for good quality recordings, but that's what makes these so good, IMHO. They reveal the shortcomings of, A)the source components, and B)the recording itself.I have owned these for three years now (with the B&W ...
Changing from RCA to balanced- possible?
Swklein-This sounds COOL! I've never heard of such a device, but if the sonic differences are noticeable, it's absolutely the way to go! Tried finding some info on this, but came up empty. Specifically, does the BL-1 handle only one device, or are...
Changing from RCA to balanced- possible?
My God, I LOVE this site! I posted this forum at about 2 A.M. CST, and by 10 A.M. I had 64 views and 4 replies! Thanks to each and every one of you! Jax2- Your CD/preamp hookup is EXACTLY what I'm intending on doing. I'm not even considering the R...
Where does your user name come from?
Mine is taken from my occupation. I'm a commercial HVAC tech, and subcooling is a thermodynamic term used frequently in my trade. Actually, superheat is the basis for refrigeration, but I couldn't find a way to use it.
