Best power cords in the $250-$400 range?
Look at DCCA cables. Don's theory is that the cord on the amp (ie. the component nearest to the speaker in the chain) is the one to spend the most on. Regardless I have tried many cables, including Elrods, Shunyatas, PSAudio, Electraglide, other D...
Tivoli Radio???
I was recently looking for a mini system for the bedroom and listened to the Tivoli set-up with the two speakers and cd player module and in spite of my high expectations my wife and I were really unimpressed. We listened to a Boston Acoustics, a ...
Unusually good power cord for the money?
I have replaced my Elrods and Shunyata cables with DCCA cables. Don usually has some demos in your price range and they are fantastic cables. Send him an email ("Virgo_ref" on audiogon). He his a great guy to deal with. Check out other forums for ...
Anyone heard these? How do they sound?
I owned them several years ago and I listened to alot of speakers in their price range before deciding on them. The final list was the Ninkas, PMC FB-1, and JMLabs Cobalt(can't remember which). Tough choice but considering price aesthetics and abo...
Tubes for Vac Super Avatar ??
Interesting findings. I have tried JJ blue glass, VAC stock tubes and now some Golden Dragons. So far I think the best are the Goldn Dragons(I'm not sure of the vintage) but I have found that the VAC is the least susceptible to tube rolling of any...
What are good phono cables ?
If you're looking for RCA/RCA type, try the Coincident phonocable. Excellent. Here's a good link.http://www.high-endaudio.com/RC-IC-Phono.html
Minor keys are like spice and alcohol?
I too have used my keyboard to transpose Bach pieces just for fun and they never sound the same. I think there is something to the actual key itself lending information to the character of the piece. There's an interesting book by Aaron Copland cal...
XLR/RCA adapters problem - Electrocompaniet
Still 1.6V eh? I see....Well I took the Cardas adapters apart and with the outer shell dismantled I found that the left adapter with 1 and 3 grounded and the right with the 3 lifted reduced the hum to almost nothing. So I put them back together th...
XLR/RCA adapters problem - Electrocompaniet
Well, I opened up one of the Cardas adapters and with the pin information on the back of the EMC it looks like everything is correct. 2 is the hot and 1 and 3 are grounded. Should I lift the connection of 3 to the ground?
XLR/RCA adapters problem - Electrocompaniet
Firstly, thanks for all the helpful information.Second, I realize that using adapters is still single ended but I think I'm taking advantage of the 3.2V output from the blanced outs as opposed to the 1.6 V with the RCA's.The pin configuration is o...
Wadia 270/27ix vs. ??
"let me also comment here a reality check CD using Georges blanks equal any SACD performance so SACD who cares"I tried to find information about this. Any clues where to look?I know it's a long delay but in talking to my friend and his own queries...
Minor keys are like spice and alcohol?
Maybe I am misreading your post. I have had similar thoughts into the power of the minor keys. When you look even further, the actual key itself was often chosen for a specific mood. For example, D major is often used for "triumphant" music. Some m...

Did you think of modding the separates?
What EL34 and 12AU7 NOS tubes...
I'll second the Seimens for EL-34's. As for 12au7's did alot of tube rolling with these and found Amperex 7316's to be the best. Has the speed and clarity of Telefunkens but not so thin sounding. Full midrange of Mullards but clearer and more deta...
