Triangle is superb--every bit as good as Achirana, and that's saying something.

Achirana is just superb--I agree completely.
Buy new integrated or vintage?
I'd have the Sony recapped and cleaned. You might inquire over on Audiokarma, where vintage gear is king. I've got some 35-yr-old Kenwood Supreme vintage gear, all recapped by a tech over there named "Echowars." Highly recommended.
Tube amp with gain controls..any suggestions
It can work, and I did it using Almarg's option 2. In my case, the ss amp has a volume control, which I keep at about "4." SS amp (190wpc) runs the bottom cabinets, tube monoblocs (60 w) run the mids and highs. A splitter from the preamp (Juicy Mu...
Why the obsession with the lowest octave
My experience is a limited one, but here it is: I had a pair of Kef Reference IIIs for several years, and loved them; I think the floor on them is something like 40 hz. Very fine controlled bass. Then I got a pair of von Schweikert VR4 gen iiis., ...
Are audiophile speakers turn on for single women?
Yes, they're right up there with fancy flyfishing tackle and Snap-On tools.
Best Keith Jarrett records
Lots of great suggestions here. I'd just offer a strong second to Jasmine and the box set, Live at the Blue Note. For me, it just doesn't get any better than the Blue Note. Those were three very special evenings, evidently: alive and swinging thro...
Bach: Six Suites Unaccompanied For Cello
I've listened to many of those mentioned, but Anner Bylsma's recording on Vivarte from 1993 is my favorite. Played in the baroque style, and stunning.
Piano that sounds like a piano
I agree that the piano is the hardest instrument to get right, and I'm not quite sure why. Classical recordings tend to move between two extremes: up close and personal with the mics (Glenn Gould's Sony recordings, where you could hear not only hi...

Norm,Thanks for the link. Here's the thread started by Albert von S. over on the audiocircle board about bi-amping.
Is it ok to Bi-amp using different Brand/model of
Hi Norm,I've not tried active crossovers, so you may be right. My speaks are Von Schweikert vr4 gen iiis (with separate posts for bass and mids/tweets) and Albert himself suggested to me that that crossovers in the speakers were all that's needed....

My two cents: I've bi-amped using a 170 wpc ss power amp (with volume control; but an attenuator would work as well) on the bass cabinets, and a pair Dynaco 60 wpc monoblocs on the mids and highs. They're run through a Juicy music peach ii preamp,...
