Review Fantastic 4 - 4 USB DACs Face Off
Blindjim, impressive report! Many thanks for taking the time to compose it.
Zu Omen or Tekton Lore
> Word to the wise: do not even consider length of time somone keeps something... > it is irrelevant. Irrelevant? Let's not get carried away. There are certainly exceptions, but I'd suggest that when most of us find a piece of gear that real...
Zu Omen or Tekton Lore
Cpapace, I've built some speakers and really enjoyed it. Next on my list was a full range + tweeter, like the speakers being discussed here. But when you price out the parts to build them, including Eminence full-range drivers, tweeters, "crossove...
Zu Soul Superfly
While ordering, I asked for the values they spec for the cap, so that I could make the change myself at some point in the future. Sean explained that some of the units were not yet assembled, so it would be no problem for them to make the change. ...
Squeezebox Duet + inexpensive stand alone server
Ckoffend, yes, lots of people having trouble with 7.6. I have not had to do this, but you can revert to the previous version of SBS, which should put all back right with the world.
Zu Soul Superfly
Well, I couldn't resist the deal, so I called Zu and ordered a pair of standard Souls. Sean was very friendly and accommodating. These have the same driver complement as the Omen (12 ohm rather than the 16 ohm driver used in the Superfly), with th...
Anyone here compare the Leben CS300 to the CS600?
You all realize that the firs few posts in this thread are from 2008, right? :-)
Jolida JD 100A vs. Cambridge Audio Azur 650
I'm glad that you're happy with your choice. So far as favorites, so far as 12AX7s I'm partial to Amperex Orange Globes and RCA triple-mica black plates, but there is a whole world to explore. You might get started by searching for "Joe's Tube Lor...
Jolida JD 100A vs. Cambridge Audio Azur 650
I don't fuss much with tweaks like isolation feet, but every tube audio device I've ever owned has benefited from NOS signal tubes. That benefit was very apparent to me with the Jolida -- one of those "hokey smokes!" moments. So I basically consid...
Jolida JD 100A vs. Cambridge Audio Azur 650
Both nice players, but different. The Cambridge is more detailed, more analytical sounding, the Jolida warmer and "thicker" through the mids. If you go with the Jolida, know that it responds well to NOS tubes.
Zu Omen or Tekton Lore
> Anyone received their Omens yet?????A friend got her's about a week ago, I helped her unpack them. I was only able to listen briefly, but I was impressed at how they sounded fresh out of the box when driven by an 18 watt Almarro integrated. S...
dac for squeezebox touch
Rayray8, I have compared them. The analog outs of the Touch are entirely respectable, but in my system, the EE DAC fed by the Touch coax is a marked improvement.
Dynaudio C1, why so expensive?
I want my own CNC machine! Bigbucks, thanks for sending that link. You're absolutely right, that baffle ain't aluminum! I assumed from photos (note caveat in my earlier post, gulp) that the dark gray portion of the baffle on the C1 was made from a...
Dynaudio C1, why so expensive?
Not looking for an argument, but I don't think we're wrong. I suspect that in your quote the "multiple-layer high-density baffle" is the aluminum plate mounted on the front of these speakers. Here's the first definition of "speaker baffle" that po...
Dynaudio C1, why so expensive?
> I don't know where you got the idea that it is aluminumBigbucks, where did you get the idea that is was not? Even the baffle on my lowly Contour 3.4s is aluminum (or some aluminum alloy), so I am sure that Xti16 is correct.
