Review: Portal Panache Integrated Amplifier
One more thing - there is a difference, both from an engineering and sonic standpoint, between a passive and active line stage in an integrated amp - it's not a marketing trick. Most pre-amp sections in integrateds add about 6db of gain to the inco...
Review: Portal Panache Integrated Amplifier
Sorry for the delay in getting back online at Audiogon - been out of town for a couple of days. All I meant is that I don't consider myself an "audiophile" because I have neither the equipment nor the experience to consider myself one. I don't have...
Review: Portal Panache Integrated Amplifier
Ejlif - that's some heavy competition. I'm really curious to hear your honest opinion of how the Panache holds up against the Parasound/CJ combo. BTW - I'm jealous as hell of your VR-4Jr's! They are an amazing pair of speakers and something I hope...
Review: Portal Panache Integrated Amplifier
Ejlif - really! That's excellent - please post your thoughts once you've had a chance to spend some time with it. What is your associated gear?
Review: Portal Panache Integrated Amplifier
Hi Marco and Speedball - thanks for the responses! Speedball - I think you'll find the Panache to be a great addition to your system.Marco - I guess I should have better defined my distinction between "designed" and "engineered" in the review. My ...
Fully Modded Origin Live OL1 or Stock Rega RB-600?
Right - I saw all of this on the Origin Live website and understand that this is the claim they are making. I was looking for more "real-world" input from individuals who have used the arms.C123666: The wiring and bearings are better in the RB600/...
Dynavector Stylus Cleaning - dehydrated ethanol???
Thanks for all the responses. I've been using an older Zerodust but have been considering getting a cleaning solution of some sort. I apply a dab of Stylast before each LP too. I'm going to have to try the much praised Mr. Clean Magic Eraser thing...
Anyone using a Sumiko Blackbird w/ Solid State?
Thank you Brnlaw - that's very helpful. Everything I keep reading about the Blackbird has been very good. I'm quite excited about trying it out with my system and hopefully this will be "the one"! Man, I thought finding a good wife was expensive a...
About Lugnut -- Patrick Malone
FAT-TIRE Beer! I knew you were a wise man Pat! I love that stuff - can't get it down here in the south-east though.Sorry the chemo has hit you so hard. I will keep you in my prayers my friend - you just keep spinning those records and never loose ...
Any opinions on the Audio-Technica OC9ML II?
I picked up an OC9ML/II and really like it. I'm wondering if the highs will pull back a little after break-in? They're not harsh - but a bit hot and bright. I'm hoping that the highs will smooth out and the mids will come forward a little after it...
turntable speed?
I guess I set myself up for that Psychicanimal - you're nothing if not predictable my friend...
turntable speed?
You know the funny thing about this post? If Cmpromo's table had of been a Rega, the knives would have come out and fast! I can hear it now - the table would have been decreed a total piece of junk and the unanimous suggestion would have been to r...
For Lugnut & Barb (Patrick & Barbara Malone)
Pat - I can not tell you what a privilege it has been to be but a small part of this. I can think of no greater joy I’ve had in recent years than helping bring someone of your caliber closer to music so that it may do what it was created for – to ...
How good is phono stage in Musical Fidelity A300?
I just ordered an Audio-Technica OC9ML/II from lpgear today. I've been wanting to try one out for a while - I'll let you know how it works with the A300.Have Fun!
How good is phono stage in Musical Fidelity A300?
I actually found the noise floor to be lower using the built in phono-amp as well. The CI-Audio was quiet enough though and the difference wasn't huge. I often wondered if this was due to the added cabling necessary to run an external phono-amp.I'...
