16 ohm speakers: any amp sounds better with more resolution. speaker cables less critical.
To me, Elliots findings make perfect sense.1. A16 Ohm speaker will present a much milder load to any amp designed for 4-8 loads, usually resulting in less distortion. There are exceptions but very rare.2. As the speaker’s impedance rises, the amp’...
Can Room Correction Be Added to an Existing DAC?
Also, bass modes you can’t fix completely with DSP. You can enhance in one spot to a certain extent. The best solution for that is multiple subs, minimum 2 optimum 4.There was a company that sells time alligned set of 4 subs. You place 2 on one wa...
Can Room Correction Be Added to an Existing DAC?
As many others have said, you can add a digital signal processor in front of your DAC.Dirac with miniDsp is probably the most cost efficient solution. If you want to evaluate Dirac you can download a time limited evaluation installation for Window...
Are these Speakers the BEST on Planet Earth ?...
Because eight 7" drivers will not begin to produce the kind of LF that superior SOTA speakers can produce. Why would you state so? Eight 7" drivers can actually displace a lot of air while still responding much faster (less mass, less inertia) than...
dissapointed - new LS50w's vs old PioneerFS52's/Luxman R113 - so far Kef's not so great?
P.S. An advice:Let them break-in and don't do the A/B comparison all the time. Play various genres of music for about a week, then you will be able to build your opinion and possibly appreciation of the speakers. Then play your old setup for a day ...
dissapointed - new LS50w's vs old PioneerFS52's/Luxman R113 - so far Kef's not so great?
I own the LS50s (passives), feed them with 60w per channel and mate them with a sub in a room that is too big for them alone w/out a sub. It took about two-three weeks for me to break-in the speakers. But they never sounded harsh, boxy or unrefine...
Bookshelf Speakers that have to be up against the wall
You lost your imaging the minute you put the speakers right up against the wall. Only thing worse you could do is put them on an actual bookshelf with books and stuff lined up flush with the front of the speakers.Books can actually disperse the re...
Ears hurt when listening after changing speakers
It might sound silly to someone, but I have a reason to believe that I developed my tinnitus (ringing in the ear) shortly after I purchased my B&W 685 a few years ago.I found that they had dip at around 3 kHz and I was listening to them with t...
The Golden era of Japanese integrated amps, are we missing out?
uberwaltz - Several have told me that those speakers do amazing with cap upgrades. Even with relatively inexpensive caps like Mundorf MKP or Clarity CSA. I think it's a very inflated story. I just recapped my ~35 years Heco speakers to a disapp...
Sub to complement KEF LS50s: SVS vs. Rythmik
My 2 cents from the 4 years of listening and enjoying experience with this magnificent speakers.Buy a pair of competent subs that can go clean and flat as high as 100-120 Hz, because LS50’s response starts to weaken at these frequencues especially...
KEF LS50 or Wharfedale Reva 2 -- which would you buy?
I agree with dolsey about Sonus Faber Venere. In my opinion they are in the same sound family as B&W (and also cone materials) but in my listening test Venere did not suffer the cupped hand coloration. I guess they are using higher order cross...
KEF LS50 or Wharfedale Reva 2 -- which would you buy?
And to add to the MOnitor Audio Silver comparison, I brought the LS50 at my friend’s who has Silver Line floorstander and we concluded LS50 sounded clearer and more transparent in the mids.
KEF LS50 or Wharfedale Reva 2 -- which would you buy?
Here are my two cents:I own LS50s for three years and I’ve never heard the Revas but I’ve heard other Wharfedale’s models and other speakers that employ woven kevlar or carbon fibre and they all had two very characteristic colorations that I didn’...
LS-50 Speakers (Passive)
@helomech: thanks for the advices. Actually I am keeping them closer to wall with exactly the effect that you describe. But anyway, wherever I tried in my irregularly shaped medim soze room, I still develop some string modes. This is not exclusive...
LS-50 Speakers (Passive)
I own the LS50s for two years and it’s a very well balanced speaker. You won’t be able to hear anything bulging or missing unusually or unnaturally. Very well behaved speaker, I won’t repeat other users’ findings about soundstage coherence and ima...
