Sound for my new theater?
True Blindjim, its just my perspective. I've had DTV and Dish and in both cases the audio is very poor even for concert programs. Perhaps cable is better.Regarding subs, I can imagine that one might be nice for HT. But I can't stand subs for music...
Sound for my new theater?
I had to make the compromise of HT and 2-channel occupying the same space. I can't stand programming HT technology with video based menus. I get enough of that from my PC, I want the audio to be simple. So for me, I went the most simple route I co...
First mid fi amp - looking at a Proton AA2480
The NAD 2200 was a great amp for the money. They have good power but don't especially like low impedance. With a pair of reasonably efficient 8 ohm speakers, I would not hesitate. I'm not familiar with the I.Q. speakers you mention. There is a par...
12v triggered outlet?
You could use Eldartford's idea but use the remote switch on a seperate outlet going into a 12V power supply attached to the triggers. So the amps could stay plugged direct to their dedicated circuits.
Stereophile Article - Holt telling it like it is.
I just love it when a magazine editor bitches about what's going on in the marketplace. Magazines that write articles about audio gear, cars, wines, whatever, have a huge amount of power within their industry. People read them and buy accordingly....
Confused... Projector or Plasma???????
I agree with the projector recomendation if it can work in your room and conditions. For me it would not due to vaulted ceilings and windows on my back wall. I would have had to mount the projector in a cabinet on the floor. So I went Sony 50" SXR...
HT Proc. with 5.1 analog in, under 1k, good sound?
I just saw a McCormack MAP-1 go for $1200. Not a processor but you don't need one if you already have a disc player outputing 5.1. I have one and like it very much. I like keeping the video switching away from my audio. Just hook your cable or dir...
Experience trigger starting Classe amps?
Classe gave me a schematic for which jumper to pull. I used a Y-connector from the pre to start both 350's at the same time. I did not have any luck daisy chaining using the out from one 350 going to the other. The output was very low, from memory...
Thiel 3.6's vs. Vandersteen 3 sigs
If I had to change from my 3.6's, I would be looking at the Vandies. They do share many characteristics. The disadvantage of Thiel's is the amp/current required. It sounds like you may have this covered. I have considered demo'ing the Rogue pre to...
Go DirecTV
I don't want to totally hijack the thread so I'll say that I have used DirectTV for 10+ years and like the picture quality over cable. And I like that their use of Tivo as not in the midst of legal wrangling as is Dish with their knockoff equipmen...
Do I need seperate circuts for Audio and TV
I ran new 20A circuits for each mono amp, 1 for audio equipment, and run TV/cable on an existing 15 amp circuit. This is working fine but I retrofit the 3 dedicated lines and couldn't easily add more. The project was a total pain in the butt. You ...
The proverbial "giant killer"
I don't believe there can be a giant killer in speakers. Most of the parts - drivers and electronic bits are made with automation and mass production so they cost about the same anywhere in the world. Same goes for particle board and wood veneers....
Conrad Johnson MET 1 6 channel Analogue help
I don't have experience with the CJ but do with 6 channel analog. I use a McCormack MAP1 pre that is the same configuration. I like the simplicity and great sound with DVD's and music. The only real disadvantage I find is with HDTV. All the boxes ...
Matching the center channel to the fronts
I agree with those suggesting some sort of center channel. Just because a system images great with music, don't expect it to make sound appear to be coming from the actors on the screen. The recording are not done the same way. It seems that you a...
Amp vs. preamp
Lots of good suggestions here. I would throw in that the preamp/amp is a combination and should be considered together. Now you have a Rotel pre/amp combo that is probably very equivalent and compatible. If you upgrade one and not the other, you m...
