Any good FM tuners around for less than $200?
Not to be brusque, but Lou's advice is simply wrong. Analog is warmer and more realistic? Really? The only difference is generally varactors versus a tuning capacitor. An "analog" Dynalab uses varators... So does an "analog" Tandberg 3001. Confuse...
Any good FM tuners around for less than $200?
I haven't had the opportunity to pull any of my tuners out in a very long time, but it's fair to say there are a lot of really good ones for very reasonable prices. At one point, tuners were a big hobby of mine, and I went through hundreds of them...
Best DAC to use with Polk XM tuner?
Stick with the onboard outputs unless you already have an outboard DAC to run it into. Any nonlinearities of deficiencies in the onboard DAC will already be SWAMPED by the poor nature of the XM medium itself. The DAC component of the Polk is more ...
Do higher end tuners pull in more stations
Ugh.. Cleanup post. Price and performance often have little to do with each other UNLESS we're talking about particular models within a given Japanese manufacturer's line. Audiophile brands for the most part have never built a truly state of the a...
Magnum Dynalab 106T with poor reception...Help
There is something wrong with the tuner. First, let's get my general bias out the way: The basic design of these things is rubbish stuffed with a few premium components, like a lot of audiophile gear. The high blend circuit stinks, the distortion ...
Difference Between Sony ST-SA5es&ST-SA50ES tuner
Okay. While that may be true, that isn't the full extent of the differences. Precisely what they aren't, I can't say. However, the SA5ES does have a lower THD and S/N ratio specification, indicating higher quality in some areas. The SA5ES is basic...
Why even bother?
Oh dear, somebody just pulled my finger. Engage tongue lashing. Let us first talk about the sound quality that is possible via FM. The potential for FM, in all honesty, is quite high and actually does equal or rival that of compact disc, in certai...
Tuner deviation meter ?
Rich wins the prize this time. Deviation meter does indeed show you how far the station is deviating from center. Less deviation generally = lower distortion but lower overall audio level. Hence, we compress and limit the signal.Eldartford: Nice t...
Tuner/MD 108 Question
Glad to hear they're taking care of it for you. I just worked on an FT-101A that was approximately 3-4 years old (which has the same guts as the current MD-100), and the circuit board was delaminating, with a few traces oxidized and falling off th...
Mods - Odds and Sods???
This is an interesting topic, really, because I've been doing quite a few modifications to tuners recently. Nothing terribly substantial really, but tuners are nice to do because the mods and alignment are both audible AND measurable in a very sig...
Help: AM antenna and AM reception
The best AM section I've found in a tuner so far was, unfortunately, in one of the most expensive tuners out there as well. I won't go into full technical detail, but suffice to say the AM section in the Sansui TU-X1 with its synchronous AM detect...
Right tuner for the job
You can indeed have an analog tuner with presets: I can think of at least two that will do this: Tandberg 3001 and Yamaha T-7. The Tandberg's presets don't tune the station in on center, however, unless the tuner is absolutely, precisely, and perf...
Right tuner for the job
Not to be rude, but does anybody bother to READ what the gentleman is requesting? He wants something with PRESET buttons, so stop suggesting analog tuners already! =) That said, here are my recommendations: It would be nice, I think, to retain a t...
Any recommendation for a modern FM tuner
7671, I was going to attempt to stay out of this, but I'll dip just a toe in: Brian is right. Period. Just because a high end company prefers to sell a stripper doesn't mean those features aren't essential! High blend and selectable IF modes weren...
Anyone reccommend books on Tuners?
Good luck. I'd certainly never want to scare anyone away from trying!Regards,
