Magnepan Users- Is this Correct Speaker Connection
With the jumpers removed from the input side of the crossover box, you'll connect one speaker pair to the "low" input, and the other pair to the "high" input. And yes, red would be positive, as long as the other end of the red lead is connected to...
Speakers for Odyssey Stratos Extreme monos
You are going to get a gazzilion different answers to this question, because out of all the necessary components required to reproduce music, the speaker choice is the most influenced by personal preference, and the sound signatures of various spe...
Trying Magnepans, need advice
I agree about the tweeter resistors. In most average rooms, I feel maggies will produce too much treble energy, and needs to be balanced out. The purists will tell you to use positioning and room treatments to balance out the response, but that's ...
maggie SMG sounds dead
You need to use an ohm meter to verify the tweeter wires have not broken. You sometimes can't see the breaks. Rotting tweeter wires is a common failure, with the old ones.
Oversampling DAC Vs. Non Oversampling?
On the other hand, I've tried a Valab dac, and although I find it easy to listen to, I find the overall sound to lack the elements that bring "life" to the music. I can't really pinpoint what I hear, but it's kind of "mechanical" sounding, as if c...
NM cable for speakers
I have to agree, Clarinetmonster. I've used 14ga romex with great results. Much more focused, balanced, deep and full bodied sound then I've ever gotten from budget stranded cables. Great bass, too. I'm currently using cheapie 12ga solid insulated...
difficulty finding CD player match for Magneplanar
Isn't it frustrating when people don't listen to your needs? You have enough problems finding a replacement player, and you're gonna have the same problems shopping for "just the right" amp. One thing at a time. As I said earlier, I understand wha...
Cables for Musical Fidelity A5?
It's best to try it in your system first, and you'll get a better idea of which direction you need to shift the sonic character, if at all.
Fatigue reducing interconnect?
Try TMC white label interconnects. If those won't fix it, try another amp. I've never heard an A5, but I just recently bought an MF A300, and it's quite fatigueing, for me, and none of my cables fixed it. It's just sitting, unused, in the garage, ...
difficulty finding CD player match for Magneplanar
I recently picked up a used Jolida JD100, and with a good PC and the right interconnects and tubes, it sounds full, rich, rounded and makes huge beautiful music. It's been a joy to listen to. To date, it's the only digital front end I've tried tha...
difficulty finding CD player match for Magneplanar
Before dumping money into other things, let's start with your original question, were you happy with the sound you were getting from your CAL player, in your system?
Sub $500 CDP
I hear ya about the Jolida. I picked up a used one a few months back for $400, and it's been great (with a good PC and the right tubes to compliment your system, and ears). If I ever lost mine, I would just find another used one. With all the diff...
Interconnects for Rotel.
I've tried a few different budget IC's (like Heros, Black Knight's, Cardas 300B's, old Monster Reference A's, Magnet Wire, Signal Cable, to name a few) with my past and present CDP's/dacs, and found the affordable TMC (The Music Cable)White Label'...
Praise for DacMagic
Well, I've been struggling to appreciate my Dacmagic, but I'm about ready to ditch it. It's OK, overall, and it does do certain things better then the dac in my cdp, but in my system, there's something in the midrange that irritates me. It's like ...
Should I upgrade my Music Hall CD 25.2
Hmmm....Larry describes it as "clear crisp sound" and Elevick feels it sounded "veiled".Larry, you say you like the sound, but in what way do you feel it's lacking?
