| Is Jay making a mistake? Amazing sound room being created A recent Hifi Five podcast discussed his business model. He flips used gear, and also gets some new gear from mfr's to review and sell. He vows that he has never accepted equipment for free in return for a review. I would assume that he gets a dra... | |
| Jay’s Audio Lab YouTube interview 😂 Watched this last pm. Very Cringey. BTW, what does "butt-hurt" mean? On the other hand, never mind, I don't want to know. | |
| Do I even need a dedicated stereo preamp? I went without a pre for several years, convinced of the absurdity of it. At the same time, I did not like the sound, and was looking at cabling, new amp, sub, power issues, etc. I finally bought a pre amp. Problems solved. I now regret the wasted... | |
| Accuphase amplifier choice Relating to Soul Note above, I was able to audition both the top end Soul Note P-3 and the Accuphase C3900 pres in my system, feeding into a Gryphon Essence amp. The Soul Note sounded nice, but the C3900 was superior. Main differences were that th... | |
| Accuphase Experiences Adrian of Audio Excellence Canada has a refreshingly unique series of videos and reviews on youtube. He recently picked up the Accuphase line, and did a review of the A-80 amplifier. He summarizes the sound qualities, and compares them to some of ... | |
| Anyone bought a Gryphon Diablo 333? @nyev , glad to hear the pre is working so well for you. Not sure the exact science of it, but the MMT directly into the Essence amp suffers greatly compared to having a pre amp in the chain. | |
| Anyone bought a Gryphon Diablo 333? Thanks for the follow up. My experience with the Essence is that the 3D soundstage/depth was very impressive. So, I don't think the amp itself is the limiting factor here. Component interactions are complex and fascinating! | |

| Breaking news! Jays Audio is moving to Texas and takes interest in McIntosh Nicely worded, positive, and non defensive response to the highly critical posts in this thread. As I look at my post, it was inappropriately negative. Kudos to your success. | |

| Breaking news! Jays Audio is moving to Texas and takes interest in McIntosh I can't help but contribute here, although it smacks of piling on. I watch his videos regularly...but not to learn about audio. It's more like a "Housewives of (fill in the blank, I've never actually watched an episode but see the drama on the ads... | |
| Accuphase Experiences I applaud the OP; they did their best to discern some differences the best they could from home, and are now planning on auditioning in person. Sounds about right to me... And, Accuphase isn’t good or bad. It is a very stable company with a parti... | |
| Anyone bought a Gryphon Diablo 333? This has never bothered me that much. It does sound better after warmup, but it still sounds good when switched on You also just have the option of listening (or leaving it) in Class AB if you wish. I think "Many Hours" is a bit of an exaggeration. | |
| Accuphase Experiences I’ve owned an E-50 integrated in the past. I really enjoyed it, although it was very dark in tone. Great for Jazz, however, I would not want that exact tonal signature now. I have a pretty high end system now with a Gryphon Essence Amp and Rockpor... | |
| Anyone bought a Gryphon Diablo 333? You have a really nice system. Given you made the move to warmer speakers, I think the makua may do the trick. I suspect it will open the soundstage and increase bass and dynamics. The Essence while neutral, definitely is not analytical sounding. ... |
