Which amp would you choose and why - Pass Labs XA-25 or First Watt F8?
Jeff Day recently reviewed the F8 and compared it to the XA25. Here’s a link to that review:  https://positive-feedback.com/audio-discourse/first-watt-f8-stereo-amplifier/?fbclid=IwAR0VthPNDQNyh...Hope that’s helpful insight.
Speaker Road Trip
Dadork, if you’re still curious about the Tannoys, check your direct messages as I might be able to help you. I have 3 pair in my home in Bloomfield I’m willing to demo for you.
What area or country do you live in ?
Bloomfield Hills, Michigan north suburban Detroit--home to more great musicians than I can count and 2 miles from Salk Sound.
Need speaker suggestion for a larger room!
I'm a woodworker and recently completed custom cabinets for Tannoy HPD 315's. Islandmandan's custom cabinets were my inspiration and template. Although many details are different, the sound quality exceeded my expectations in every way. As with Da...
Is the Merill "Gem Dandy" turntable far superior in sound than the Project RPM-3 TT??
twoerner-- I'm with Samuri on this one and would go with the Polytable. George Merrill is a master turntable engineer and I believe the Polytable is one of his masterpieces of sound quality. I also am a huge fan of both the Hana cart and Jelco ton...
Antennas for FM Tuners in Urban Setting
As the son of a TV serviceman (anyone remember those guys?) and antenna installer, I recall him teaching me there are three primary criteria with antennas for TV and FM.One was pointing towards the  source of the broadcast antennas. These were dir...
Duelund internal speaker wire?
+2 with Grannyring. I've used 12ga Duelund tinned copper from my MC30's to the external crossovers solderless copper lugs and 12ga to the woofer plus 16ga to the tweeters on the Tannoy MG HPD315's and find the sound quality to be everything Granny...
Help with direction
Given your current path, I recommend diving into Jeff's Place blog (6 Moons and Positive Feedback reviewer Jeff Day). He's deeply into vintage audio and I've found his site to be an incredible source for well reasoned guidance. My own journey star...
Greatest debut album
Have to add Steely Dan-Can't Buy a Thrill, Cat Stevens-Tea for the Tillerman, Heart-Dreamboat Annie, Eagles-Self Titled, Jackson Brown-Self titled/Saturate Before Using, Creedence Clearwater-Self titled, The Who-My Generation, Yes-The Yes Album......
Western Electric 10ga vs Dueland 16ga
Ditto Grannyring... You should also know Dueland is available in 12 gauge. Also I understand authentic WE hasn't been manufactured for quite a few years now and there are a few unscrupulous eBay sellers claiming to have WE but "caveat emptor".
YOUTUBE and Vinyl are gonna bankrupt me!
Like most, I too can't afford Better Records' Hot Stampers, but I have learned a great deal from Tom and his site. First his hot Stampers have lead me to find so very many great sounding records. Second, I've enjoyed all the equipment, setup, room...
Legacy Focus SE or Magico A3
I'll add one more vote for Legacy Audio, particularly since you're so close to Springfield. I was there a couple of months ago and Bill had several extremely nice sets of Focus' available, and seems to regularly have a good selection from trade-in...
Is a GREAT turntable under $2000 possible???
Talk to Dave at VinylNirvana.com -- he does amazing work with remanufactured, vintage Thorens turntables, some within your budget. However as others have pointed out, a phono stage is another matter. But check out the Audigon thread on the iPhono....
Axpona 2018
I heard the HHR exotics and IMHO the were quite harsh and metallic sounding and although the soundstage was huge it was also vague where instruments didn't really seem to have a place...they seemed to be coming from "everywhere". Most unimpressive...
The Method of Tuning
Michael,Let me me first thank you for starting such an interesting and insightful thread. I've enjoyed reading every bit of it and have also explored your website and other links posted along the way. However I have never even able to visit your T...
