has anyone compared Cat JL 1 to Cat JL2
Suttlaw, what amplifier did you have before? What are the improvements brought by the JL2?

You may want to go to Arthur Salvatore's website where there is some commentary on these two amps. According to info on the site, a listener of both felt the JL-2 was superior. I think Ken Stevens thinks so too.
HELP Why no bass? Why bright?
Is it possible to address this issue without knowing room dimensions, speaker placment, and listening position?

Vandersteen 3x Owners: More Bass?
I had a 20 Amp Dedicated Circuit installed, but unfortunatley it was done at the same time I brought in the CAT and ARC CD3 - so of course it sounded better than before. I asked ARC about power conditioners and I get the impression they use Richar...
Special power cord for the pass aleph amp ?
I have had the exact same problem with the Aleph and a Harmonic Technolgy power cord. The Pass standard cord fit perfectly. Note that Pass will tell you in both their literature and on the phone that they do not believe that the perfomance of thei...
Vandersteen 3x Owners: More Bass?
The "subs" are part of the 5As, integrated within the 5A cabinet and with their own 400Watt amplifiers (for the subwoofer frequencies) per speaker.
Vandersteen 3x Owners: More Bass?
Well it certainly seems like you have a very satisfying system. Has the search stopped? or are you contemplating your next move? Any thoughts on interconnects, speaker cabling, or power conditioners within the context of your system?
Replacing tubes on used equipment bought on A'gon
Depends on type of tube. Tubes degrade gradually with use, but will "work" considerably longer than their ideal useage time. So you could have a tube working 5-10 years that musically degraded after 2-3 years. The only way to know is to try new tu...
Vandersteen 3x Owners: More Bass?
Zargon, thanks for the input. The 5A path seems right. One thing I like about Vandesteen is he has a design philosphy that he can articulate (on speaker boxes, on subwoofer integration, on multiple drivers covering the same frequency. on time and ...
Vandersteen 3x Owners: More Bass?
The room is 30' Long x 14' Wide. The walls are irregular shaped solid stone. The floor is carpeted concrete. THe ceiling is exposed wood beams (about 9'). The speakers are 10' from back wall, 3 1.2" from side walls, and 9 feet from listening posit...
Do tube dampers really work?
There seems to be some agreement that tube dampers offer an improvement. Why would a manufacturer of a relatively expensive preamp (over 4K) not offer a tube damper as part of the standard equipment to "improve" performance, or at least offer them...
Vandersteen 3x Owners: More Bass?
I have no interest in HT, only 2-channel acoustic music (jazz, folk, classical). I own the Vandersteen 3A Sigs with VPI TT, ARC CD3, CAT SL1 Ultimate, and Pass Aleph 2 Monoblocks. I was curious as to whether the (2)2Wq would improve the overall so...
