SilverLine Audio LA FOLIA speaker
Hi,I owned a Bryston 4B-ST (haven’t heard the SST) with PSB Stratus Goldi speakers. At a recommendation of a trusted dealer, I dropped the Bryston and bought a Spectron Musician II. The Spectron was clearly head and shoulders above the 4B-ST (not ...
Review: Great Northern Sound Co. Wadia 860 CD Player
I agree with all of the wonderful things mentioned about Steve Huntley. He recently modified my 861 to his Statement Level and the result was spectaculiar! Steve was very patient with my many questions and he went out of his way to ship me the pla...
What speaker for Bryston 14B-SST?
I listen to a lot of rock with a high powered amp (Spectron Musician II) and I’m very happy using a pair of Silverline La Folia’s. They are an 8 ohm speaker rated at 90db and will handle 1000 watts. They incorporate 4 great drivers— Dynaudio Esota...
Power Cord Recommendations for Cal Audio CL2500
Be careful with the Black Mamba. The earlier editions rolled off the highs and really extented the bass. If this is something you desire, it will be a great pc for you. I believe the later Black Mamba’s, possibly named MK II, don’t have this chara...
Wadia 860x vs Audio Aero Capitole Mark II 24/192?
Hi,I just had my 861 upgraded to the Statement Level by Steve at Great Northern Sound and it is incredible. I believe he may even upgrade Audio Aero players. I would seriously check into this first, I don’t think you would ever regret having this ...
If you're happy: why switch?
Warrenh,To your list I would add Stealth PGS. Stealth has changed this cable to newer versions but I always see some original PGS here on Audiogon. I owned the Cardas Golden Reference and was surprised at how much better the Stealth sounded. There...
Binding posts on PSB golds
I previously owned PSB Gold Is and was using a single run of Kimber Monacle XL speaker cables. I replaced the standard metal jumpers with Mapleshades copper ribbon jumpers and was very happy with the results. I’m currently doing the same with a pa...
amps for dunlavy sc4
I believe that these speakers were voiced using a Spectron Musician II. If not, it may be that I heard Mr Dunlavy is using the Spectron with these. This is a great amp and way above the Adcom in sonics. Good luck.Jim
Cary CD 306/200; what else?
I owned many Cary CDPs (303/100, 306/100 and finally the 306/200) I came across a great deal here on Audigon on the Electrocompaniet EMC-1 and decided to purchase it. I have never looked back. IMO, the EMC-1 was definiately the best player. Much m...
Whats your opinion?
As we know, everything is so system and room dependent, along with personal taste. Some very good speakers not mentioned are the Silverline La Folias and Talon Khorus or Ravens with the new x-overs. Good luck.Jim
quattro fil xlr or cardas golden cross
I owned Cardas Golden Reference and tried Quattro fil in my system. I slightly preferred the QF because it had more speed and extention then the CGR. I kept the CGR for a while and then found a cable that in my system was better than both—Stealth ...
To bridge or not to bridge....
I was in the same situation in that I also wanted more power from my 4BST. My speakers were PSB Stratus Gold I’s. I went with a Spectron Musician II (500 watts per channel) and could not be happier. Not only did I have more power, the sound qualit...
SILVERLINE SONATA II-giant killer?
I think you would be very happy with a used pair of Silverline LaFolias. I have seen several on Audiogon for$4,000-$4,500. I currently own a pair and use a tube pre and Spectron digital amp with them. I was told by Silverline that the LaFolias wor...
jumpers versus golden plates
Mapleshade makes a ribbon jumber that comes in about a 3-inch strip. You only need a small section touching each post. I believe a set of 4 is only $20.00. I have not tried wire jumpers but have obtained excellent results using the Mapleshade ribb...
Hi: I am looking at silverline Lafolia
Hi,I posted information on the LaFolia a few months back. If you do a search under Lafolia you will find it. A quick recap—I currently own a pair and were told by Alan at Silverline that they work extremely well with high powered ss amps. I’m usin...
