Some thoughts on ASR and the reviews
@botrytis I'm with you there. We all have our preferences.
Some thoughts on ASR and the reviews
@botrytis Soooo, if audition two speakers. One set you love the performance of, by your listening. Then later, you go to ASR and find the "klipple" readings rate the one you did not like higher,...Which one you gonna buy? Lol   And no one is su...
Some thoughts on ASR and the reviews
@botrytis  Measurements are not necessarily valid either. I had a pair of Kef LS50 meta for about a year. This is an ASR favorite.  I found it uninvolving. Neutral but boring. Poor Soundstage. Poor imaging. Etc. I got a set of Jean Marie Reynaud B...
Some thoughts on ASR and the reviews
Audio products are sold with puffery because...sales. Or they are sold with measurements because...sales. Music is emotional.  Gear is beautiful and represents many different things to different people. If the product isn't moved, the industry die...
Should we care if a piece of equipment comes from a pet-free, kid-free, smoke-free home?
Aside from the smoke smell, equipment from a smoking home accumulates a layer of nicotine that discolors the unit and clings to the electronics. It is not impossible to clean, but it is not easy. I used to hand out in an audio repair shop with a f...
Some thoughts on ASR and the reviews
I think it is pretty predictable that the invective that springs forth from the ASR community/cult, has spread as negativity always does. And it all comes from Amir. He is the leader and he justifies it. Just look at his image on the ASR site. A G...
Audiophile junkie - awesome vid about NYC million dollar system today
Sub optimal room size, but that is a very common problem for New Yorkers. Even the wealthy. That said, it's a beautifully constructed system and despite limitations in the acoustics, I bet it sounds fantastic.
Qobuz vs. Tidal
I have found that Qobuz has a much larger classical library.  Tidal has a better interface.  Spotify has great algorithms for passive listening.  I keep all three and listen almost constantly.
He spent his life building a $1 million stereo. The real cost was unfathomable.
The real story here is about caring for your loved ones.
Speaker for 11x12 room
I've been shopping for a room this size. So far, to me, the Proac D2R is a great value. Seemless driver integration. Music sounds very natural. Wonderful soundstaging and imaging. Great dynamics.
Tidal or Qobuz
Both excellent.  User interfaces and auto playlist algorithms are very different.  Qobuz interface and algorithms get me further out of my comfort zone and into newer recordings and artists. Tidal, less so. I use both to keep my listening fresh.
What is meant exactly by the description 'more musical'?
It's a subjective descriptor. It means that the whole of the component's sound conveys music in a way that pleases. Or a way that conveys the emotional content of the music. It's the most important descriptor. It is my bottom line when evaluating ...
Have you found your "End-Game" speakers yet? I have. And it feels so good!!!
Vandersteen Quatros in the living room. Very refined and open. Jean Marie Reynaud Bliss Silver with Rel sub in the study. More pressurized. Love both rigs. The Quatro Wood CTs are probably end game. They were a budget stretch. I'm loving the JMR B...
Okto DAC 8 Stereo (Shout-out)
Mine arrived yesterday. I am running the output at 0 and it works fine with my Pass X.0 front end. Amp is an Audio Research 100.2. Speakers are Vandersteen Quatro Wood CT. I have not heard a lot of high end DACs. I have heard the Audio Research D...
NAD M23 Stereo Amplifier: Best Amp Ever Bench Tested?!?
Specs and measurements can be interesting but ultimately unimportant.  I listen to how a component sounds. How does it shine light on a performance.  Consider visual perception.  You have day light, incandescent, flourescent. Dappled light, shadin...
