turntable with detachable headshell
Try the modded Stanton ST-150 from Mapleshade:http://shop.mapleshadestore.com/Stanton-ST-150/products/201/I own an unmodded version of this and you'd be surprised how good this $500 DJ turntable can sound once you start tweaking it. As-is, it's bu...
How Does Lossless Work?
Exact Audio Copy (EAC) has a "Compare WAVs" tool which does a bit-by-bit comparison of 2 WAV files and will show you that WAVs compressed with FLAC, APE or whatever are identical to the original after they've been uncompressed back to a WAV file.
An audiophile DVD burner ??
All files sound the same if you copy them back to HDD since that would be reclocking the jitter.I'm still doing tests, but it seems that discs burned on the Plextor drive sound "cleaner" than my other burners (regardless of what device they are pl...
An audiophile DVD burner ??
I was thinking along the same lines, so I was able to snatch up a supposedly unused Plextor PX-712A for $28 on Ebay. We'll see how it goes when I receive it.
An audiophile DVD burner ??
Basically I'm looking for a burner with the lowest jitter (which equates to clearer audio).
An audiophile DVD burner ??
Yes, I do hear some differences between DVD-R media, though burn speed on DVD-R doesn't seem to affect the sound as much as with CD-R. Haven't figured this one out yet.
An audiophile DVD burner ??
I am looking for DVD burner you can put in a computer tower, not interested in any standalone device.
An audiophile DVD burner ??
I am using a computer - not sure what you mean. I am trying to burn several CD's-worth of music onto a single data DVD using lossless compression, but I am not completely happy with the sound quality coming off the DVD's so far (using Pioneer and ...
Burning cd's for my modestly high-end system...
I put sheets of styrofoam above and below my CD drive in my PC and then 2 large chunks under the PC tower and it made a noticeable improvement (cheap vibration control). Also try Herbie's Black Hole CD Mat.The best sounding CD-R's according to my ...
Is HDCD dead?
Play your HDCD discs on a PC with Windows Media Player (the newer versions do decode HDCD - if you press the pause button while playing a disc, a small HDCD logo will display at the bottom - and doesn't that tell you that Microsoft owns it now).
A tweak that will tame the digital-ness
Just a follow-up to my previous post... The Maxell CD-R Pro discs are just outstanding! They make even regular Taiyo Yuden and Mitsui CD's sound flat (haven't tried MoFi CD-R's yet, but they are also Mitsui discs). I guess it has something to do w...
A tweak that will tame the digital-ness
Try Maxell PRO CD-R's available at Staples and elsewhere. They are made in Japan by Taiyo Yuden plus they have an added scratch protection layer that makes them more durable than regular Taiyo Yuden discs. But make sure you get the ones labeled as...
What to look for in purchasing CD-R's for recordin
And surprise... Guess who makes HHB CD-R's? Most of them are by Mitsui, a few by Ricoh. Except that they are low-speed discs rather than the usual 52x (which is fine with me, because I can't stand listening to CD-R's burned faster than 2x anyway)....

DVD -R or DVD +R
Just 2 competing formats. They both work equally well. -R may be slightly (5%) more compatible since it is a year older. If you're just burning data then it isn't much different than burning a CD-R (except for 7 times more space). I would be more ...
