new cartridge for Music Hall MMF 5
ok. one LAST question on this thread. nude vs. bonded stylus? Wolf_garcia brought up the Pearl, which sounds like it might be a good fit for me too (and someone is selling one here right now with a spare stylus!). is one of these going to track be...
new cartridge for Music Hall MMF 5
well, based on comments and other things I have read, I think I am narrowing my choices down to the Ortofon 2m Blue or the Denon DL-110. On the one hand, the Ortofon has a replaceable stylus, which is appealing, but the Denon is a little cheaper. ...

Well, the 2M blue is getting a lot of votes. looks like it can be had for $200, so fots the budget! what are the differences between this and the OM20, which is at the same price point? Are the Nagoka MP200's still in production? I dont see them l...
new cartridge for Music Hall MMF 5
thanks! on another thread someone had suggested the DV10x5. that looks a little pricey unless i can find a used one on good shape. Anyone have any opinions on the cheaper model Clearaudio units these days? I think its called a Concept? I liked my ...
suggestion for replacing Totem Arro
Well, lets see how the stand idea holds up with the other half. admittedly, as much as I didn't want to part with those guys, I was also sort of hoping for the chance to try something new out! :)
suggestion for replacing Totem Arro
riffer, thanks for the idea on the stands. i hadn't thought to go that route! do they really make them that much more steady? Akg_ca, do the tannoy's or the rega's perform well with a wall close behind them?
suggestion for replacing Totem Arro
The spike idea is really good! :)I don't know the KEF speakers so I'll check those out. I listened to totems bookshelf line and remember not liking them as much. I also felt like they were kind of finicky about placement? Maybe that's not true tho...
Voltage converter for using 220V turntable in US?
you're better off getting a whole new motor. voltage is easier to adjust than the frequency, which as noted above will affect playing speed, which is sort of a big deal when you're talking about a turntable. depending on the TT you're talking abou...
Totem Arro and Rainmaker... other speakers?
funny that this thread came back after a couple of months as I JUST got a pair of Totems after a couple of months of indecision and alternate routes (including a brief experiment with some Omega's which did not work out so well). I now have a pair...
Monitor Audio Made in China?
Dredging up an old thread here, but I'm interested in assembling a list of speakers that *aren't* made in china, taiwan, or otherwise outsourced. I started to think about it, then realized I didn't know too many. Especially one's that have offerin...
Kinima speakers?
I am really impressed with these and thinking about getting a pair. Rx8man, you mentioned getting these for $375, was that new? The places I've seen them for have been asking for $500+ for new pairs... Maybe since you are thinking of picking up a ...
Totem Arro and Rainmaker... other speakers?
thanks for the input here. anyone out there with some suggestions of other speakers?
Epos speakers and a monarchy sm-70?
or, if no thoughts on this specific pair, more generally any ideas or thoughts on a speaker in the same price class as the above mentioned epos (used or new) that would mate well with the Monarchy SM-70 and a Forte 40 preamp? thanks.
Music Hall MMF 2 brass bushing/spindle worn?
what sort of llubricant would i use?
Nelson Pass and Forte
Hmmm, i've never heard the model 2 preamp, but i have a model 40 which i love. i did at one point email jon soderberg about this very question and he was of the opinion that the model 40s were far and away a better unit than the model 2's citing b...
