New Budget CD Player
Thanks for the blow by blow description of the mod, Bill. Just now, I want to hold off on trying that and see what else might be available. The Cary is certainly tempting, albeit above budget, considering the other things I want to do to the system...
New Budget CD Player
As usual, you all come up with a bunch for me to do and I thank you for all the ideas!Just for clarity, I am reluctant to use the video source for audio since I want to keep things simple. I've been careful to wire things so that I don't have to t...
New Budget CD Player
Thanks to both of you for your responses.Tpreaves - I listen to music more than I watch movies and the display on a CD player is much easier for me to use for music than any of the DVD players. As you suggest, I do wonder about whether I have enou...
Review: Grungebuster CD Mat Herbie's Audio Lab Tweak
I purchased the Mat based on the positive reviews I read here and in other places and also on the low cost. The online ordering process was textbook: order placed easily, confirmation received, shipping notice received and 3 day delivery to Philade...

Budget DAC vs new Player
Johnnyb53It's been a few years, so I don't remember the brand, but I'm guessing that I spent about $15.00 for it. While I recognize that all cables and connectors can have a significant effect on sound, my limited budget forces me to look for the ...
Budget DAC vs new Player
I am now using a 1 meter digital coax cable to link the two. It does seem clear, both from comments here and elsewhere, that I would do better to buy a DAC, rather than a new player at the same price. You know, part of the fun with this hobby, reag...
Budget DAC vs new Player
Well, once again I am grateful for the useful and quick answers this community comes up with.Elevick's inquiry is on the mark: There was only a small difference between the Rotel's internal DAC and using the one in the NAD - which, I suppose is in...
Left / Right Maddening Problem
Ozzy,You are quite correct - you can assume, but it's always better to check. I did switch speakers without finding a change. I next re-did the speaker and amplifier connections. The result of this was encouraging: the left dog now came from somew...
Left / Right Maddening Problem
Commcat,In the interest of brevity, I left out some detail that might have misled you. My pre/pro is an NAD T-163. This unit specifically allows the user to select the kind of processing to apply to each input. As such, I have Stereo enabled on th...
Left / Right Maddening Problem
Thanks, Tobias. This is a provocative approach. I have tried to keep things as symmetrical as possible (the room is 10 x 18 with curtained windows along one long wall and seating along the short wall). Ordinarily, I wouldn't expect the bit of diffe...
Left / Right Maddening Problem
Thanks, Puerto.Puerto: I can certainly try duping the CD, however, if I make a truly accurate copy, I would expect it to perform just as the original has. I will give it a try and let you know what happens. Jon
EMOTIVA UPA-2 AMPLIFIER
Hi,I wonder if you are referring to the XPA-2 amplifier. I had originally looked at that, but, at around 70 lbs., the weight was simply too much for the cabinet shelf on which it would need to be placed! While I continue to be happy with the UPA-2 ...
Pre-Pro Suggestions?
Thanks to all for your comments. As it turns out, since my need is rather pressing, I was able to get an Emotiva MMC-1 B stock unit for $450 delivered by calling them. While it doesn't have the 40% discount for upgrading, it still has a 5 year warr...
Pre-Pro Suggestions?
Thanks for your responses. I've heard good things about Onkyo and will certainly take a look at them. While I appreciate the offer, RW, I do think that I will be best served by looking for something that will handle current and coming technologies...
