Wisconsin - Anyone interested?
I've been wondering the same thing! Who wants to assume the responsibility to establish something like a CAS? I love this game and I know there's lots of others around who would like to sit down and argue the merits of their system over yours, may...
How to improve a Sota Sapphire III?
I had a Sapphire until a few weeks ago. I sent it back to Sota (in Chicago) to see what they could do to upgrade and/or modify. After spending some very enjoyable time on the phone with a couple of the people there I decided to trade my Sapphire f...
Best Value Speakers??
I am a huge fan of American electronics and as a rule stick to them, but the best speakers I have found for the money are a pair of Sony SSM7A. The are an American design and have been compared by Stereophile writers to the Wilson Watt and Puppies...
Disappointed in SACD player
I don't have an SACD player and at the moment have no plans to buy one, but...I have done some time listening to one on an average system (that's anything that isn't as good as mine) and the sound was very good. My Sota Sapphire/Rega RB900/Sumiko ...
Tubes are not so unreliable
The problem in most tube equipment is not the tubes but the way designers abuse them. Tubes can last nearly a life time unless they are pushed so hard to do things they weren't designed to do. Most new (the last ten or fifteen years) tube designs ...
Why Don't More People Love Audio?
Because too many audiophiles listen to their equipment not their music. We turn people off by the way they see us listen to things. I've seen people with huge dollar systems listen to "music" they don't like because it sounds good. Where is the lo...
Vinyl or wait for the new stuff??
Availability is a huge concern. Is the music you want to listen to available on the "next new format?" SACD ond DVD have extremely limited choices. Virtually anything is available on vinyl. Somethings are just harder to find than others. CDs are c...
Cartridge Setup?
The right equipment makes all the difference. I don't know if I would even try it w/o my MoFi Geodisc. They are still obtainable Along with that you need a scale for setting the tracking force. I use a cheap Shure gage from Lyle Cartridges. Laura ...
Best female vocals on CD
Diana Krall And Jennifer WarnesLaugh all you want but there are very few singers better than Karen Carpenter. It's too bad she didn't record better songs but their last album is quite listenable.
Feelings on Napster?
The music industry is complaining because sales are down. Whose fault is that? They release so much "music" that is just garbage and then wonder why it doesn't sell. Napster helps sell music to people who really like music. I go to napster to find...
Bi-Wire or Double Run of Single Wire ???
The real question is: Which option will allow for the best tightest connection? If you're trying to fit two pairs of spades onto the back of your amp it's unlikely you will be able to get a good connection. The last two sets of speaker cable I use...
How can power cords make a difference?
I don't know why they make a difference but I've found even realatively inexpensive i.e. $100.00 cords make an audible difference. Beleive the scientists or believe your ears, it's all the same in the end.
Mobile Fidelity CD s
Supertramps "Crime of the Century" is a great sounding CD. Almost as good as the vinyl version. It was very well recorded especially for the time period. Queens "A night at the Opera" is also very nice, but I guess it always depends on your musica...
