Tape decks - still of any value?
Thanks for the responses. I'll now have to get a tape and see what kind of shape these machines - especially the 1000ZXL - are in.Ned
Cartridge Recomendations for VPI HK-19 MK IV w/Gra
I have used my VPI HW-19 MkIV with Graham 1.5t with a wood bodied Grado cartridge (forgotten which model) without problem. But I agree with Markd51; the audio-technica AT150MLX works beautifully with that combo. I found mine on Audiogon at a good ...
Noisier Outer Edges?
I've alwasy assumed this is because the outer edge is always exposed, since most people put the record sleeve in to the cover with the open end lined up with the open end of the cover. More exposure, more dust and dirt. Once cleaned, I always slid...
More evidence that LPS are still alive
In the area of pop, rock, perhaps jazz, vinyl seems to be in demand. In classical, I think not much, and for good reason.
how much to offer friend for records
At the used record store I occasionally visit classical records go for from one to three dollars on average. Jazz is apparently more valued; those albums go anywhere from about seven to thirty dollars (all with heavy duty outer plastic sleeves). I...
First used turntable +- $20,000. Any suggestions?
Judging from my readings of posts on this forum, my view is distinctly a minority one. But if pitch stability is high on your list of priorities (musicians only?), then I believe there is only one turntable to consider - Nakamichi. Either the Drag...
New/Record Warping Help
If you have to tighten the clamp a great deal to bring the record into contact with the platter at the edges, you may want to try a somewhat thinner washer.
Got a New CD Player and Now I'm Bummed
Dodgealum,I've followed this thread for awhile and am still puzzled as to why you're hearing the dramatic difference that you are. If you're willing to spend about $10 and a couple of hours of time, I would at least try a different arrangement to ...
Am I getting it all?
Just a footnote to my previous reply. Like speakers, all turntables & arms are a compromise. Only one company (Nakamichi) madea a TT that would compensate for eccentric records (just about all) and give you pitch stability approaching what dig...
Am I getting it all?
I agree. Vinyl is not superior. Different, yes, but it has it's own problems. If you have a large collection of records and are determined to get the best from them, perhaps upgrading makes some sense. Otherwise, use and enjoy what you have and do...
Best location setup of turntable
An inexpensive pneumatic isolation system can be made by using a bicylce tire tube (depending on size of your tt an 18x1.5 or 20x1.5) and plywood board (1" or 3/4" and big enough to fit under your tt). Place the tube on your current stand-shelf, t...
How to determine wear on a stylus?
". . . when it sounds dull??" My concern there is that by that time it may have begun to damage the records.
How to determine wear on a stylus?
Thanks, Elizabeth. That sounds like it's worth a try.Ned
Considering going Vinyl--Please talk me out of it
Vinyl can sound very good in spite of it's various 'minor' problems (eg. noisy surfaces, inner groove distortion) but what bothers me most is it's pitch instability (non-concentric records). Having heard the rock solid pitch stability of digital, ...
needle problem
Not being sure how to begin a new thread, I hope it's ok if I ask a question here on needle maintenance. Do most who play a lot of vinyl use a microscope to examine their stylus occasionally for wear? Otherwise, how do you determine the condition ...
