HELP! Blown ground wire in two pre-amps
Quick response: First: Thanks! Second: I like your reasoning. The subs are hooked up per Rels instructions which are as you suggest. As for the action of the sub back into the preamps: that really sounds right. The preamp's ground acted as a fuse ...
Advice on amp to pair with new Revel speakers
I have the Ultima Salon 2's and they love power (I demoed them against B&W 802d's and with the right amount of power the Revel beat the B&W's across the board). I can't speak directly to the F36's. I wanted Mark Levinson monoblocks (great ...
Good Pre-Amps For McIntosh
The second sentence of my post should read "even though my ears are going" - that: they are getting worse.
Good Pre-Amps For McIntosh
I appreciate all the suggestions and hope for more. I just wish I could afford buying them all and switching all of them out and picking the best one for my room and setup. Alas. Less children or more audio? I opted for more and less. I suppose it...
Good Pre-Amps For McIntosh
Thanks for the suggestions. I'd be interested in more. I was driving these with a Conrad Johnson 17LS2 (4 tubes) and sometimes with a CJ 18 SS. I liked the 17LS better. For some reason something weird has happened to both so I've sent them to CJ f...
Matching Pre-Amp to Amp
Thanks for the response. I've been doing some reading based on your comments. I did find this at Stereophile regarding my CJ17LS2: "The output impedance was below a lowish 800 ohms in the midband and above, but rose to 1.6k ohms at 20Hz, due to th...
Matching Pre-Amp to Amp
Heck I'm I being boycotted for the Mac's or is it something else? I'd hoped for some comments. I've sent my CJs back for repair, but if they find nothing wrong or they are too expensive to fix then off to looking I go. I'm driving Revel Salon Ulti...
Is there a way to improve the sound?
I use Tidal too.
Is there a way to improve the sound?
You can get good sound from digital if you use uncompressed file formats. The problem with WAV files is there is no Metadata (track name etc.). FLAC is uncompressed and maintains the Metadata so I would recommend FLAC. Use Dbpoweramp or Exact Audi...
Etiquette for a listening session?
PSAnother idea. You need to play music that your guest likes. I've found with my children that the starting place is their music (even if I don't like it), but I have to have a way to get uncompressed files of their music (or the session is useles...
Etiquette for a listening session?
I think you have to gauge the situation and the people. Don't forget that there are lots of folks who simply can't hear what you hear and so they can't be immersed in listening. Even if you sat them down, told them to be quiet and listen they won'...
What used speaker would you buy with $20,000-$35,000 and why?
hm1Yep totally out of my mind. Sometimes I think I'm a vegetable and I'm just looking to waste my green on all things stupid. It's apparent that I'm not nearly as smart as you are and I certainly don't have your experience. Or, it may be that I'm ...
What used speaker would you buy with $20,000-$35,000 and why?
Thanks Ctsooner. I will go up there and take a look. I got two monoblocks from them awhile ago (sight and sound unseen and unheard) - of course I don't think I can afford new Vandersteens I'd want (i.e. Model VII - $62,000 list) and, if I can, I'd...
What used speaker would you buy with $20,000-$35,000 and why?
The room is crucial. Fortunately I have a really good room (once I resolve an issue with the floor joists - I have to run a beam in order to cut the span in half and stiffen the floor). So I really suppose the question then is independent of room ...

"Tooks" let's try "took" a great hit.
