Blue Note reissues
Some blue note recordings have distortion on them. Especialy earlier stuff. Van Gelder doesn't pad the mics down much and you can hear it on solos sometimes or loud drums or vibes.
How to make record albums
There is no right way. Miniaml signal path is great and a good room and mostly good musicians willtake you far. recordings though are very often a reflection either of what the budget dictates or what the egos involved do.Many records that I have ...
Best Recorded Vinyl Albums
Most of the records famous for recording are not things I like musically. Some good ones that to me are also fine musicially are:- Mingus "ah um"- Sam Cooke "night beat"- reiner/bartok " Music for celeste and percussion"- milford graves/andrew cyr...
How Does the Soundsmith
audiofeil, what are the cartridges of which you speak, just for the sake of my own reference?
Kind Of Blue 1st pressing stereo...
it's not a rare record by any means, but people have funny habits on ebay. It all depends on how much you care about the money. You can always put it up on ebay and see what happens. Modern jazz prices are certainly down right now, but kind of blu...
LP playback vs Reel tapes made from LP
the answer though is no. Meaning that a generation down is a generation down and there should not be so much of anything going on with your lp playback as to change that. Now, maybe your tape machine is aligned some way to make the recording more p...
Best Live Recording on LP
"best" is strange because sometimes yu don't that modern "hi fi" sound on the best music. I likeCharles mingus plays charles mingus on candidart blakey live at birdland vol 1donny hathaway livelive at leedseric dolphy live at the five spotornette ...
Koetsu vs Dynavector vs Lyra??
a zyx may fall somewhere in your tastes too if you are considering a lyra. I have never owned a koetsu, but like higher end grados fo the body. However, like some people here, I got addicted to the neutrality and speed of the lyra and zyx carts.
Are our 'test' records adequate?
If "Raw Power" doesn't hurt my ears, I know there is something wrong.
Teres Versus with Galibier/Redpoint?
I have not heard the rim drive Teres but only the Saskia seems to be an actually new design. The tape drive on my galibier works well. I would give the edge to the Galibier over the redpoint (i looked into both before buying) because I fel the Gal...
Linn LP-12 still competitive with the very best?
NO, I don't think so either. It doesn't mean it can't make music, but then a lot of things can that are less expensive.
Quad ESL owners question
They all sound different. Quads are a pain in the ass and have a very small sweetspot. On the other hand...You'll get some of the dispersion qualities from other dipoles but the imaging is different on different speakers. I don't really think quad...
Why does "Monk's Music" vinyl sound strange?
i used to have a later riverside copy and thought the whole thing sounded dull. When i got a first pressing, I guess i got lucky. It's mono but the sound is clear and open. It went form being a record I thought sounded lousy to a really great reco...
Collecting Blue Note Jazz
well...If you are buying for value originals or second pressings of valuable titles are still the way to go as we do not know in the long run which reissues will increase in value. As for sonics, old blue note 1500 series stand up pretty well to we...
Musical involvement?
If it is really well set up, meaning that you don't have a genuine mis-match, I would say you just don't like the cartridge or the arm or both. I find too much anti-skate can make things seems less involving, so you might check what method you are...
