I don't know....think I might need to hear it first to tell for sure, if that's possible.... (Yes, that should be great. I really would love to hear it. And a lovely gift, I might add.)
emotiva mono block amps any good?
Funny. Mitch, I'm sorry your speakers make both people and intimate objects cry. That doesn't sound very nice at all. And calling my preference regarding amps "laughable" isn't very nice either. I know you're into your hungry, inefficient speakers...
emotiva mono block amps any good?
Oh my gosh. Sorry, I can't resist. But if the question is what would I rather spend $1,600 on in terms of a used amp, a 5 minute brousing of the current listings here produced some possibilities: top pick, Plinius SA-50(1,600); Rowland Model 1 (1,...
Vivid Audio Giya G1
Interesting to see the frequency with which we all seem to compare the Raidho and Vivids -- even if I did start it. As for the YG that I had unceremoniously lumped in with them, it was the new(er), little two-way Carmel. Honestly, never particular...
Vivid Audio Giya G1
Definitely, have a listen. I heard a set at a show, and found the sound to be pretty swell. I put them as punching in the same league as the Raidho and YG offerings that I also loved – although the Raidhos were my clear favs, both the D1 and D2. Y...
how to get the remote app on iPod touch to work??
Used to be pretty simple -- but haven't done it since the latest update to iTunes, so things may have changed. Step one, make sure that the Mini and the Pod are in fact connected to the same wireless network. Sounds like you've got that dialed in....
Any experience with Verity Parsifal monitor ONLY?
Not 100% sure they're currently selling them separately, but I'd be surprised if they aren't. If you pull the literature on the parsifal, you'll see it's always speced out for both the monitor and the full system, separately. And if you're patient...
All in one brand, please help
Tivoli. That's what you're looking for. There are millions of different ways to skin this cat. But who wants a skinless cat, and I'd bet dollars to doughnuts Tivoli is what you were both trying to talk about. Pick the one that does what you want i...
Best Rock Album in 2013
Now, I don't speak Swahili, but you can't convince me that 4 plus 8 doesn't equal 115, nine times out of three, or that your average horse won't recite original Shakespeare in Sanskrit if you slide it backwards under a chicken, gently -- provided ...
Speaker grills on or off?
I actually think mine sound better with them off. There's more energy and clarity on the high end. Not a huge amount, but noticable. But, that said, it's very rare that I actually bother to remove them. They're magnetized, and very literally could...
Is soundstage just a distortion?
I’m not sure whether we’re not talking about it because it is obvious or because there’s some being obtuse afoot, but maybe worth retreating to first principles for a moment to try and find a common vocabulary about what “soundstage” is an how it ...
Does your system sound better than most demo's?
Funny, had just that same conversation with a friend leaving the NYC audio show last weekend. We're both running relatively rarified – and very different – gear, but both adjourned to the bar thinking that there really wasn’t anything we’d heard t...
Can I tweak L-R balance by differntial biasing?
Can't take credit, myself. Had a friend over who's a sound engineer and we were monkeying with speaker placement. Him sitting in the hot seat, he's got me moving the speakers backwards and forwards by tiny increments. "So, what exactly is this all...
Can I tweak L-R balance by differntial biasing?
I've found that the best way to do accomplish this without a balance control is to move the speakers. You can very accurately, and in whatever incriment you desire, shift the balance just by moving the desired channel either closer or further away...
Anyone going to the NY Audio show today to Sunday
Went Friday on a two-day pass. Thinking about going back Sunday. Faves had to be all the stuff from Raidho, Vivid Audio Giya (hate the look, love the sound) and the "baby" YG (Carmel). Some good vibrations, for sure.
