Can anyone tell me when XLR connections were first used on stereo equipment. (what years)?
What about Tandberg, anybody know anything about them?
What became of the guy making OB speakers about 2 years ago?
I'd put in an order for Clayton Shaw's Caladans pretty early on. But after a 5 month wait I cancelled and my refund was sent almost immediately.  So I wouldn't call him a very very bad man. I'd just say he bit off more than he could chew. But he b...

Thank you all for your input. XLR has quite an interesting history. Can anyone recommend other stereo brands that used XLR in and out connections? Mid-fi  and no tubes is preferred. Thanks.

Thanks jwei. I'm going to surmise XLR connections were mostly limited to units that fell in the mid to upper levels of hifi. I'll look into components manufactured in the 90's and after.

Thanks audioquest4life, that was informative. But they didn't name any stereo brands that used balanced XLR cables for their components other than speakers and microphones. I'm interested in the earliest use of XLR connectors for amps, preamps and...
Anyone else order Caladans from Clayton Shaw?
How long have the rest of you been waiting? My order was placed early January and the invoice number from Clayton is 225. I spoke with him in February and he said, "Give it a couple of months." It'll be a total of 5 months coming up early June, th...

I have receipts, I just have to figure out where they are. From now on I'll be more organized. @allenf1963 Here's a list of the gear: 1. Primare Pre32 preamplifier with manual, power cord and remote. 8/10 condition.  Original boxes. 2. Musical F...

Looks like payments via Zelle require a lot of trust because there's no buyer recourse if things go sideways. Probably not much recourse for the seller either. And Stripe declares you're a business (which I'm not). Maybe I'll dig through my record...

Thanks all, for your input. I guess I'll inquire and see what they propose.
Anyone else order Caladans from Clayton Shaw?
I took a closer look at the invoice Clayton emailed to me and the No. he gave was 225, so I'm feeling better  :)  Greatly enjoyed the review, vthokie83!
Anyone else order Caladans from Clayton Shaw?
I placed my order January 11th and have the order number 1089...makes me wanna cry. How can that be? I talked to Clayton 2/28 and he said, "give it a couple of months." So I'm hoping to get my walnut Caladans in April (but maybe not until May).
What songs do you listen to to test a system's midrange performance?
Great recommendations, everyone. I've always liked that first song by Brubeck. I haven't heard it for decades because I never knew the name of the artist until now. I see a purchase in the near future. And I love steel string guitar. Along with Fr...
Gary Wright has passed away
On skate dates my husband and I couple-skated to "Dream Weaver." R.I.P. Gary.
What was your first record?
Diana Ross and the Supremes, "Merry Christmas." I got that album when I was 12 years old on Christmas morning along with a new turntable. Still have it today. No scratches! Also got on 45, "Get Me to the Church on Time," with flip side, "Down the ...
Denafrips FPGA Firmware Update
Sorry about the confusion. But yes, Denafrips denied me the upgrade. I didn't ask for it. They brought it up. I asked about possible future USB input upgrades. They asked for an order record saying they couldn't find one for me. When I told them I...
