Your last speaker?
I used to get new speakers every 4 years or so. Even when I got new ones I would often check out the latest thing. After going Orion I have lost the itch. They are the first speakers to do everything I want, as long as realistic sound is the goal....
Has anybody had experience with the Orions?
Jmaldonado,I don't detect anything out of the ordinary at the crossover points and, no, they are not adjustable.Tim
Has anybody had experience with the Orions?
Fishboat,The Orions definitely do not sound big all the time. I listen to a fair amount of solo guitar and lots of string quartets and the aural perspective is always size appropriate. I hated the way full size panel speakers made a guitar sound l...
Has anybody had experience with the Orions?
I owned various Thiels over the years and often listened to lots of others whenever hit by the upgrade bug. When I found the Orions I was cured. They are the best I have ever heard and the closet to the sound of real music, at least Classical - wh...
Thiel 3.7
Zaikesman,I got the "semi kit" form of the Orions. It had the woofer box and part of the top panel assembled and painted but I had to screw it all together, install the drivers and wire it up. The EQ/XO was fully assembled. I listened to the speak...
Thiel 3.7
I have had Thiel CS2, CS2.2 and CS2.3s. I had the CS2.4s in my room for a week. Whenever upgrade fevor hit me I always came back to Thiel. However, that slight glare was never far away. I heard all the big names including Harbeth, Spendor, Quad, V...
Best speakers for Classical music under 10k used
Billhound,The Orions, being active speakers, seem to just get louder as the orchestra swells. As much as I loved my Thiels they seemed to contrict a bit when things got loud. That may be due to the 1st order crossovers which put lots of strain on ...
Best speakers for Classical music under 10k used
I just upgraded my Thiel CS2.3s to Linkwitz Orions. After listening to lots of models these were the only ones that really offered overall improvement IMO. However, the Orions are not easily heard as they are either DIY or sold direct fully built....
Thiel 2.3 vs 2.4 the real difference
Side by side is the only reliable way to tell minor differences. Our ability to remember subtle changes in sound is poor to say the least. Memory does funny things and is more affected by other stimuli than most would admit. Tests have shown peopl...
Thiel 2.3 vs 2.4 the real difference
As I typed, I had both Thiels, side by side, in my room and the 2.3 is already 90% of a 2.4. Maybe 98%. Few people really do side by side listening. We all know how erratic sound memory can be when the element of time is involved.Tim McTeague
Thiel 2.3 vs 2.4 the real difference
I actually had a pair of 2.4s in my room to see if they were much better than my 2.3s(with upgraded drivers). While the 2.4 had a bit better bass they were nearly identical. The dealer insisted on coming over as he remembers the 2.3s as being no w...
Thiel 2.3 vs 2.4 the real difference
Mr systems,Now that you have switched to calling me by my last name I guess you are irked. My point has always been that your experience is the one that seems out of step. I HAVE measured mine and do not have the peaks you suggest. Perhaps only me...
Thiel 2.3 vs 2.4 the real difference
Cinematic_systems"Name one of those media outlets that ever said anything negative about any Thiel speaker or any product they reviewed."Oh come on. While reviews seldom trash a product you can tell when they really like a product vs just saying i...
Thiel 2.3 vs 2.4 the real difference
Cinematic_systems,We have been over the Thiel issue before so I'll try to limit my comments to CD quality, as yours seems to be a minority opinion on the 2.3. I have read about 8-10 magazine/web writeups and it has been highly praised. Anyway, man...
Thiel 2.3 vs 2.4 the real difference
The Stereophile measurements of the 2.3 were an anomaly. No other magazine showed the radical climb towards the treble that theirs did. I have used a Radio Shack sound meter and test CDs to chart my 2.3s in room and the speakers are remarkably fla...
