Totem Acoustic Forest Signatures
Stumbled on this discussion today. This thread is what I used to love about internet audio discussion! Great info based on actual experience and not a negative Nancy in the bunch. I am also a huge Totem fan. Scored original Forests a few tears ago...
peachtree decco as a preamp:?
The Decco is a fine preamp. Many use it in pretty elaborate systems and reviewers have confirmed. The amp section in the Decco is the least stellar of the integration where the unit will sound a bit restrained but still enjoyable. The pre/dac/head...
Turntable suggestions for novice...
Easily a used Rega Planar 3 gets you right where you want to be. RB300 arm, great platter etc. I see them under $500 often in great shape.
Bookshelf or Mini Monitor
The Era D4 is a great place to start and really have a touch of magic in the mids that you just don't hear under 1K. Bass is great for a smaller room. Very good for low level listening as well. I use them after many comparisons using a Mac Mini an...
Most non-fatiguing 2.0 nearfield setup for $1000
I assume you are going used based on your needs and budget. The Decco does fine and would not introduce any fatigue. I have used on with very revealing Epos M16is and it does well so a wide variety of speakers would work well with it. I find it to...
SS Amp Recommendations?
The Belles 150A is going to be about as good as you can get for $500 used and is musical as heck. I also agree with the McCormack recommendation. Both are superb amp for the $ and will rock your world.
Exposure 2010S Integrated. Any experiences??
The Exposure is one of the finest amps I have owned. Very involving listen. The only area I think other amps better it (such as the LFD Mistral) is in the top end, it's just not as sweet as the mids. The mids do most all for the Exposure's special...
selling primare cd31, new cdp recommendations?
What don't you like about the Primare can I ask? I am familiar with the Primare gear but and not that particular player. A good route to go if buying used is to buy the player you may want to try before selling your Primare. I have found at times ...
McCormack DNA .5 and 1- big difference?
I own a DNA .5 Deluxe and it is hard to fault at all, being musical and revealing yet smooth. I bought it after reading user comparisons with the DNA 1. Most stating in base form, the DNA 1 is very good but the .5 was something a bit more special,...
Arcam AVR300 problem
New mains boards on the AVR350 were initiated after SN#s AVR3505419 if that is a help at all.
Denon AVR 2808 or Arcam AVR 300
As stated, the AVR 300 can't be touched by any Denon or Onkyo for sound, newer or not and certainly not by the 2808 which is not a high end sounding unit in 2ch at all. Features are fun but once you set up you still listen to a receiver. HDMI is n...
Denon AVR 2808 or Arcam AVR 300
The Arcam is one of the best sounding all in one receivers I have ever heard. I think it's build and clarity are top notch. I upgraded to the AVR 350 and its more open but still similar in sound. With the Denon I think you pay for more of the late...
Bryston B100SST vs. Naim Nait 5i
I have owned both units. The Bryston B100SST is a very transparent, clean, open, neutral and powerful amp. I could have done with less analysis in sound myself as I actually like the B60 better overall musically speaking but there are trade offs f...
Exposure vs Classe
Exposure is known for a very immediate and involving midrange liquidity and that is completely musical and involving with great transparency and insight to the music as whole, not unlike Naim but not the same either. The Classe is more typical hi ...
Best CD player $500 or less used
I'd look to a used Rega Planet 2000 or Arcam CD73. Good sound for dollar and good dependability. Should be $400-$450. Another convenient option may be to get a USB DAC and run from your PC if you keep a music library on it.
