Does anyone have custom-made earbuds?
If you haven't already, you'll find hundreds of users of these at head-fi.org.
Best preamp is no preamp: always true?
I have found that in real life passive pre's can sound very thin and bad. I'm sure it's system dependent, but if the impedances don't match well, it will sound bad.
How to implement pc as a Transport. Which route.
I like the idea of separating from the PC via Squeezebox, that's what I'm going to do. Personally, I will probably forego the mod of the squeezebox and instead put that money into a separate DAC. I don't want to put too much $$$ into a component l...
iTunes idiot needs some help
I want to do the exact same thing as you. I want to be able to keep my collection on the computer as (Apple) lossless, and somehow sync a compressed version onto my iPod. This will allow me to Airport the (uncompressed) music to my receiver from m...
DVR's and High Definition TV
DirecTV does also with a new combo unit costing $1000.
help, best option for sound on the go?i-pod or new
I use an iPod 3rd gen with a 40 gig drive, played through Etymotic ER-4P canalphones. I have my entire 500 CD collection stored in the iPod at 128kbps AAC. I have read the sound will be beaten by a good CDP, but I can tell you the sound is extreme...
Why so much????
Every one of us has more music than we need, but there may never be a limit to how much we want. Music is a great hobby because it allows you to enjoy the music, but also feeds some of our desire to collect. I find it much more optimal to collect ...
music hall cd-25 question
I have a CD25 and can play back CDR's just fine, provided they are standard CD format, not MP3 or anything. I can't remember if it plays CD-RW or not. If you're having trouble playing back a CDR, maybe try another brand.
iPod to DAC
Apple's Airport, which works with iTunes, has a digital out that can be fed to a DAC. Not sure if there's a quality way to do digital out straight from the iPod itself.
I need more cowbell....
I put my system together one component at a time, just like you. Only, when mine's finished, it plays gold records.
I have a confession to make
This is the bigger/faster/more/better quality we humans are born to seek. You mustn't let it get out of hand. I recommend you commit to being happy. Pursue it directly. It sounds to me your hobby is now to the point where it is bringing you more s...
Good, Inexpensive Sources for CD's
Many of my CD's have come from BMG Music Club. You get 12 for the price of 1. Once shipping and handling is figured in, it works out to $3 a disc or so. Very cost effective way to build a CD collection. They don't have every title, but for $3 a di...
Is anyone using Signal Cable interconnects/cables?
I was very satisfied with Signal Cable Analog 2's being between my CD and integrated amp. I must say, however, that after replacing them with a pair of Zu cable Oxyfuels, I was able to hear a big improvement in sound. And this is from a bit of a "...
Best Grateful Dead recording?
Another plug for "Dozin' at the Knick". It's also HDCD encoded.
Am I brushing records wrong?
Thanks everyone. I didn't know you're supposed to use static to your advantage to remove dust. The "hairs" are almost certainly carbon fiber bristles. The brush is fairly new, I think my brushing technique has been horribly flawed (sounds like you...
