Cassette Deck??
What's so entertaining about this thread is how "polarized" folks can become. I'll bet that back in "the day" before the growing popularity of the cassette tape, (be it pre-recorded, or the ones we did ourselves), most of us music lovers and hobby...
Cassette Deck??
Aw now come on...all you "haters" who have seen fit to bash the once "viable" cassette tape, why you gotta be like that huh?? Most of us at one point in time had 8 track tapes too...and shitty little low-fi record players as well. We all had to st...
Cassette Deck??
I have 2 Nakamichi decks from the mid 1980's, (a BX125, and a BX300). Still working perfectly (not that I listen to many of my cassette tapes made way back when...), but I've had no problems with them whatsoever in over 25 years!! No lie!! I think...
Hum issue - driving me more crazy
Hello Imdoc, Hope my obsessively detailed response was helpful in your quest to rid the hum. I am a firm believer now-a-days in running things balanced. Took years of trial and error, and a whole hell of alot of gear, cable, and subwoofer swapping...
Best place to put a single subwoofer?
Hello Fellow Audiogoners, been out of town for a few days, just rolled in at 10:00pm (P.S.T.) from a concert at the ORACLE Arena in Oakland, California. Mrdecibel, no new developments or news to report as of yet. Probably do some experiments n' st...
Best place to put a single subwoofer?
Hello Everybody. Hello MrD, Thanks for the feedback. I am not rolling off the last octave and I am in fact running the MBL's full range. I am not a big fan of routing the audio signal through Hi-pass filters in the subs crossover. I have found tha...
Best place to put a single subwoofer?
MrD, no offense taken. At this point in time I am sponge and I am open to all input, suggestions, questions. My system is as follows, (and is a mulligan stew of stuff):Amps: B.A.T. Vk600se monoblocks (solid state) 600w/4ohmPreamp: B.A.T. Vk51se (tu...
Best place to put a single subwoofer?
You folks are all great! Thanks so much for all the input. Now my head is SPINNING! Oh where to start? Sounds like I have a few projects that lie ahead. In response to Mrdecibels input- I used to have stereo subs, (Von Schweikert Towers of power),...
Best place to put a single subwoofer?
Shadorne, What? A singles bar? WTF?
Best place to put a single subwoofer?
Great feedback everybody. I agree about the corner placement being "overpowering". I have done that already and found that room boundries do boost the bass, but not in the best way, and the left side of my listening room where the sub was situated...
stupid tube question of the day
What about taking steps to cool the tubes down while they are in full operating mode? Such as running a small, quiet fan toward the tubes. Say one of those super silent computer fans, or A.T.M.fans (Active Thermal Management)? Could providing a co...
stupid tube question of the day
Dgaylin-there are NO stupid questions, except for the ones you don't ask. I don't have a clue either when it comes to tube life. So what is the answer? Hopefully we can get some tube aficianados to chime in on this.I have been a "solid-state" guy ...
Help with hum
Hello Dave, I struggled with hum issues for years but not due to any kind of tube issues. My situation: too many different pieces of gear, on too many dedicated circuits, and powered subwoofers. After many trials and tests I came up with the follo...
Running cables under carpet. Any great methods?
Hey that idea with the custom baseboard Tmsorosk suggested IS a really slick way to do it, provided you aren't using any big 'ol fat cable. It will be costly though. I had that done last April 2010 when the wife and I ripped out all our (ugly, dir...
Running cables under carpet. Any great methods?
Pulling up the carpet IS a pain in the ass and I would avoid it unless you know someone, (or want to pay a carpet install guy), to lay it back down all nice and neat, tucked properly at the edges/under the baseboard/on the tackstrip. You can reall...
