Expanding the Class D Conversation: How Would You Characterize Their Differences?
@hilde45 You know much more about this than me, but you touched on another area that i think creates a lot of the confusion.  There is also, the very different sound of Class A tube amplification vs transistor-based Class A, including OpAmp based ...
Expanding the Class D Conversation: How Would You Characterize Their Differences?
Class D is merely a circuit topology for power delivery.  Wouldn't all the rest of the circuits complications be filters and such the manufacturer used to tackle various issues.  I'd imagined the character of the sound has more to do with the comp...
Is anyone still using a CD Player
Remember, using your CD player is effectively, using another DAC.  If you like the way your streamer sounds compared to the 505's DAC, then do you.  But maybe it's a good time to look into upgrades or refreshments for the 505.  It was released 20 ...
When a power cord could obviously affect SQ
Based on many of the ideas in this thread about the cable mitigating interference and such, it would stand to reason that you may not notice a difference if youre already using a real power conditioner.
“You have to open a door or window to let the pressure out of the room.”
This is the same principle as cabin gain in a car.  My brother was disappointed with how his new speakers and deck sounded as he sat there with the key on, doors wide open.  I said, close the doors, and roll up the windows, sir.
Do Audiophiles Hear Real Differences, or Are They Justifying Expensive Purchases?
https://forum.audiogon.com/posts/2918843 I'd say, at the same time, its the best tool, because there's no reason to waste money on Vandersteen speakers if you thoroughly enjoy Fisher speakers.
Ethernet cable for TV
Want to know what makes a bigger difference than changing cables?  Using an old OC as a pfSense server or rather an old PC that acts as a router.  I used an old i7 4770 with a dual 1Gb card, and it was a huge difference compared to my flashed R7 u...
speaker cable that would work under a rug
Parts Express still sells the Audtek braided speaker cable that is flat, and meant for exactly this purpose.
What do you all make of this psuedo-science
All recordings are re-recorded.  And a master is just some engineers idea of what it should sound like or in partnership with the producer.  But if you decide that is what should sound best to you, as in the baseline, you've already failed yoursel...
Power conditioner/strip
How about buying an actual power conditioner that meets actual, stringent standards and specifications?  I dont know what your power requirements are so ill just use a somewhat worst-case scenario and suggest an Ametek Powervar ABC1200-11 or heck,...
To All Cable Deniers, 1 Very Simple Question.
I think the problem is that people always ask the wrong questions or ask them with the wrong potential answers in mind.   A better question would be can a difference in conductor materials make a difference audible to the ear?  If you hear a dif...
USB wires
What is true is that a cable that is properly functioning should not influence the sound.  BUT this discounts everything else about the hardware it is connected to.  For instance, DAC IC's.  If you like datasheets, you'll notice that IC specs are ...
Why not acoustic suspension?
@dynamiclinearity  After this thread sparked my memory about those old speakers, which i thought, in my youth, were just white van speakers, I went googling and realized that what I actually owned were the ESS-made Cannon TLS 1030's. 😭
Why not acoustic suspension?
I have completely forgotten the name of the speakers I had as a kid.  They used passive radiators in the back, so they were in-between i suppose.    But one day I removed the passive radiators, and sealed the holes shut with some round, wooden d...
