Loudest Sound Ever?
Also to add, back in the day of my hi-fi retail and car audio, it was the in thing to have DB contests. Our shop ran one and  I had the setup to mic each car competing. Of course all these cars were insanely loud. I recall one kid (20 something) a...
Loudest Sound Ever?
For me the loudest sound I can recall, would be from a RAF Vulcan bomber displays at the Abbotsford Airshow back in the 1970's. Those Rolls Royce Olympus engines at full thrust howled and ripped the air. It was an impressive part of the demonstrat...
Who is ditching their shiny disc spinners?
I'm from a vintage of when CD's took off in the mid 80's. The CD was a God send to the hifi music listening community. I adopted well and even sold off my LP's by 1987, built up much of my CD collection  via  Columbia House by keeping  on resignin...
How many of you are digital only systems?
Since May 2021 I have reverted back to an all digital system. I ran analog gear as a teen back in the 1980's, sold it off by 1987 as I got into CD audio pretty early on (June 1984).  Slowly built up my CD collection and often using Columbia House ...
My Rega RP6, Exact combo may be going back due to hum.
erisch,Yes, the Denon DL-110 required about 2mm or so of a raising to make tonearm parallel to the record. I attained 9 small flat washers and super glued them into 3 stacks, 3 high which give a 2mm or so height. I then drew up the 3 points of scr...
My Rega RP6, Exact combo may be going back due to hum.
czarivey. Why is a Rega an overly-overvalued deck with very poor build quality? As to value in turntables, I’d say 99% of the population will say any turntable above $500 US is overly-overvalued. Add the fact that some turntables cost as much as goo...
Ground Hum with Rega RP6, Exact and TT PSU.
crazyeddy,Roy Gandy of Rega Research has always believed in stiff, rigid and tend to a lighter weight turntable designs. Adjustable VTA will reduce stiffness and rigidity at the tonearm base. All Rega tonearms are grounded. The ground is attached ...
Ground Hum with Rega RP6, Exact and TT PSU.
Hi,I recall a poster on Youtube with the same hum issue on his RP6 and TTPSU. His solution was to grab a length of wire, careful back out the left side, back screw on the TTPSU and apply the ground wire to the screw then place screw back in place....
Thinking about getting into vinyl again...
Ok, If you want to follow on here. This is what I would look at doing with about $1000 to spend.First, I'd shop for a good/great used turntable. I'd look for vintage higher end Made In Japan, Direct Drive models circa oh say 1975-1985 or so. Denon...
TECHNICS SL1200 MKII.......THE REAL FACTS
As to high end, I totally understand why many may be enamored by it and as long as it's money one can afford to spend it's ok! I believe in the value to cost ideals though. I do not buy low end junk but I also do not see the value in the diminishi...
TECHNICS SL1200 MKII.......THE REAL FACTS
Ok, not sure why I bother in this rather circular argument but I will add my 2 cents.Every direct drive turntable I've read about and seen measured has lower wow & flutter and better rumble figures than most any belt drive unit. They also have...
Vintage Cassettes: Direct Drive, 3 Heads: Sendust
Ivan. The JVC, TD-V711 was direct drive. A belt drives the second capstan. Heads are Amorphous for Record and Sen Alloy for Playback. All in all a nice JVC from 1989. I owned one for a while.
Vintage Cassettes: Direct Drive, 3 Heads: Sendust
Direct drive motors in cassette decks have some assurance of lack of some belts but not all. Most dual capstan direct drive decks have a belt driven off the direct drive motor driving the second capstan. Often these are not too hard to replace if ...
LP to CD format anyone ...
Cd recorders are available. Most consumer models force you to use CDR for music discs which cost more. Of course one can record to a computer hard drive but mnay find that a pain.My solution was to buy a stand alone digital field recorder in my ca...
Remember the year and first vynil you ever bought?
1980, Supertramp, Crime Of The Century was the LP. 1980 and onward was the beginning of my hi-fi journey and collection of recorded music.
