Anybody listen to Horning Agathon or Alkibiades ?
I was wondering how much the Agathon gives up in various respects to the larger and more expensive Alkibiades? Should I consider the Agathon or the Alkibiades?
Positioning Vandersteens
I agree with Judit. I used to have a pair of Vandersteen3A Sigs and found that the instructions that Vandersteen provides work very well. To minimize some of the problems you are having with bass control, I would suggest moving the speakers away f...
Linn Ikemi CD Player vs. Other Lower Cost Options
Have you considered a "modded" Sony XA-777ES or Philips SACD 1000? You can get the base CD players for about $2000 and $800 (mail order), respectively, and the mods can cost anywhere from $500 to about $3000. These players will play all formats. T...
Violin Concertos
I second Route9's recommendation. I think that Hilary Hahn's Beethoven is very nice as well.
Violin Concertos
I meant to add some other concerti as well: I have always enjoyed the Mozart concerti (there is a pretty good low price set available with Arthur Grumiaux playing); there are the two Bruch Concerti (actually one is the Scottish Fantasy) with Heife...
Violin Concertos
There are many good recordings of the major violin concertos: I like Stern in the Dvorak, there are many for the Beethoven, I like Michael Rabin in the Paganini 1st, etc. For the "Butterfly Lovers" there was a recording put out by Hong Kong (HK-10...

Original Box VS No Box...does it matter?
I really don't feel that the original description provided by the seller was adequate and that this should be sufficient reason for revoking the sale.
absolute best component you ever owned
I agree with Mp10019, the Silverline Sonatas are the best speaker's I have ever owned and compare well with the JMLab Utopias at $30000.
Coping in an Age of Uncertainty
I'm with Garfish. I have decided to keep my Mark Levinson 37 transport and upgrade the 36 DAC to a Dodson 217 MkIID DAC (there was no comparison between the two DACS and upgrading the M-L 36 to a 360S would have cost a lot). I am not worried about...
High Efficiency Speakers
Hi! The site that Lak referred to is "Best speaker for 2A3 amplifiers" (Thread 968284191), which I had started. I have used both Coincident Super Eclipse and the more efficient new Silverline Sonata speakers with a Don Garber Fi Super X 2A3 stereo...
Krell knocked off Jeff Rowland
I used to have an older Rowland Concentra that did run very hot (say about 50 degrees Centigrade on the outside). I would think that the interior temperatures are quite a bit higher. I liked the sound and the convenience, but sold it to go to an a...
Vandersteen 3A sigs amp advice please
When I had my Vandersteen 3A sigs, I used two M-L 331's in a bi-amp mode. That worked very well.
Levinson 30.6 or dCS Elgar & Purcell
I cannot offer a direct comparison, but I compared the dCS Elgar and Purcell against the M-L 30.5 and the former gave better resolution and a less mechanical sound than the M-L. I compared a Dodson 217 Mk. IID against my old M-L 36. I sold the lat...
