How do YOU organize your iTunes library?
I use J River. You can create your own fields and index on any combination of fields (standard and user-created) one wants to. Even with 70K files, it's quick to navigate from any angle you choose. It's also easy to set up a playlist on the fly ve...
Best movies last two years
Just watched "The Counterfeiters" this past weekend - excellent!
Dynaudio C2 with Plinius 9200
I have owned the C2's along with a host of other Dynaudio models. Not surprisingly, I haven't found them to have "dead" treble.I think the Plinius would do well, but if upgrading the amp down the line is out of the question, I'm not sure I'd want ...
Life without a remote
I've got an Ayre K1x preamp which has a remote for power on/off and volume, but not source select. It is annoying even tho it is just once every so often. Not having volume remote would be a non-starter for me.
Next up... new speakers...
If I had a big room, and being willing to buy used, I would go for the Dyn C4's. When I had a 20x40 space that opened onto the rest of the house, that's exactly what I had. You would ultimately want to upgrade the amp, but they are really a great ...
PSB Gold I to NHT Classic Four
Just an educated guess, but I would think it might be different, but not substantially better or worse. If you have the PSB, that's a nice speaker, especially at the price. If you know what you're seeking and the NHT has it, then by all means, go ...
Confessions
I'm not sheepish about anything I like - it all fits one mood or another, and I like a pretty wide range of stuff. Reading the audio rags, I'm always amused by the discussion of "guilty pleasure" listening - what the heck is there to feel a sense ...
Revel Salon2 vs. B & W 802D vs. Wilson W.P.7?
All three of those are a LOT of speaker for the Lexicon amp. I'd either scale back on speaker cost and buy a beefier amp for the fronts, or at least know when in the future my budget would afford the ability to upgrade the front channel amplificat...
Your Second System
Great responses - thanks to all who have contributed!I have grappled with this over time and many scenarios. I am moving soon, so now the scenario is that I will have a living room and bedroom on the main floor, and then a finished downstairs, som...
Best way to set up computer server on the cheap?
I would answer #2 and #3 as yes, and the M-Audio 24/96 sound card. Relatively cheap, easy to install, allows for direct bit-streaming. New is around $149, though ebay would undoubtedly do better than that. The cheapest way to do what you're suggest...
newbie with basic question, please
Assuming the Apple has the right output to match up with your DAC/pre, and that cables are implicit in your system description, yep, I think you have everything you need. And it will sound pretty good, too.
Tips for a First-Time Show Attendee?
I've only been to one show, but it was RMAF 2006. I second the notion of taking your own compilation disc - that was my one regret of my visit, as most rooms were very willing to play whatever I wanted.
Where to buy vinyl?
I bought my first LP's from Amazon - they came in perfect condition, but were definitely not packaged as well as Acoustic Sounds packages their shipments.Anybody buy from Tower's website? They have even better prices than Amazon, but condition on ...
Yamaha RX Z11 vs. Denon 5803
My guess is that you can't go wrong with either - both companies have been building statement HT receivers for years and appear to be quite good at it. I've always been a fan of Denon gear, but have no basis to recommend it over Yamaha. The critici...
Company or Solitude?
As with most passions, I definitely prefer company if the company is also enthused. It can end up being a different experience - different music chosen, occassional conversation, etc. - but that can be a good thing.Conversely, I am very happy to j...
