Townshend or MuRata Supertweeters? Thoughts?
Just purchased a lightly used pair of Townshend Maximum Supertweeters w/original box and accessories for $875 including FedEx & insurance. From everything I’ve read, this is going to scratch my itch. Thanks everyone for your thoughts. I’ll pos...
Talon Falcon C; Bueller... anyone??
Hi bsimpson. Thanks for your insight. Your experience is contrary to my own; at least with respect to the Talon Khorus X and the Raven C. I found the Talon 10” (essentially) full-range driver to be pretty special. That driver, along with the semi-...

Totem Acoustic Element Metal: The WOW factor!
Hi Jond. Per V. Bruzzeze of Totem, the Element series indeed employs the Torrent driver without a (conventional) crossover. The witchy magnetic motor assembly somehow accomplishes the frequency modulation. The manual is probably referring to the s...
Totem Acoustic Element Metal: The WOW factor!
Seanheis: Totem does publish its measurements. Pretty impressive. They control the frequency to the 7.5” Torrent drivers via a magnetic field innovation involving the motor structure (which I don’t fully understand). However they do it it yields i...
Totem Element Metal vs B&W 803d?
I auditioned all of the above and chose the Totem Element Metal. I just love the “big” open sound that those (semi) full-range 8” drivers create. I haven’t found anything else that matches my Pass components so well (XA30.5 and X1). Superb!!
Polycarbonate Disc Bliss: The CD is alive and well

Cartridge repair; re-tipping; canitlever replacement: The Needle Clinic A++
Hi boxer12. I think $450 is the top price because of the boron cantilever and the type of nude stylus the Apheta uses. Seems like it drops all the way down to $200 for other combos. Do give Andy a call though, he always picked the phone up right a...
Cartridge repair; re-tipping; canitlever replacement: The Needle Clinic A++
Well, Mr M if you must know, just being careless. I rammed my ZeroDust stylus cleaner dead on to the front of the stylus/cantilever. It did not shatter, but bent. Attempting to repair however = shattered.
Pass Labs XA30.5: In praise of Class A magic!
Indeed! PHD you are mistaken my friend. Nelson Pass enjoyed a little capital inflow from colleagues, and he is no longer "President" of Pass Labs. He still designs and builds all the gear, along with the engineers he's worked with for decades. No ...
Pass Labs XA30.5: In praise of Class A magic!
What?? Nelson sold Pass Labs?? I know he desisigned and built the XA30.5, because a friend of mine was working with him at the time. If it's true that Nelson sold PL I certainly hope they continue to use his circuit designs!

Focal 1037BE; All-Rounders Extraordinaire!
SJTM: I don't know what to attribute my (subjective) impression that the 1038BE is a bit less "special" than the 1037BE. I think Focal added a second bass port to the 1038BE, and perhaps that interfered with the "seamlessness" and cohesion that ha...
Focal 1037BE; All-Rounders Extraordinaire!
Erik: Can’t say much about the crossovers Focal employs; I’ve never seen them nor a schematic for them. I can attest (as has everyone who has reviewed them) that Focal has done a remarkable job of integrating the drivers into a seamless presentati...
A Must Hear under $5,000
Yep. I know that's a tall order, but yep. I should probably add a must hear for NEW speakers under 5K, as there are many fantastic used transducers out there for much less. I spend a lot of time visiting audio stores and listening to friends' syst...
