VPI SDS capacitor question
I also have the SDS with the Classic and VPI changed the capacitor to the .68 version. Hope this helps.
CD player closest to vinyl?
Just finished comparing the Lee Morgan's Cooker RVG cd vs the King's pressing of the vinyl and sounds virtually the same on my VPI Classic table vs my Raysonic CD 128 with 6dJ8 tubes. The soundstage on the vinyls sounds slightly wider. YMMV.
best overall speakers at low volume?
Agreed with others that having a good system is important. I have the Gallo Ref 3.1 speakers with tube gear and VPI Classic table and sounds wonderful at night when everyone is asleep.
Hi Fi Dealers in NYC - where to find them?
I live in NY and went to all the high end dealers . By far, the best customer service I received was at Audio Connection in Verona, NJ. It's about 45 min from Manhattan. Ask for John Rutan. Nick is the turntable guy there. Remember that each store...
I love my VPI Scout
Upgraded from the scout and couldn't be happier. The classic is better all around in terms of dynamic and bass.
VPI Classic---replacing stock feet: my experience
Also have replaced the stock footers with the Edensound bearpaws and have noticed an improvement in bass. My VPI classic is sitting on top of my Salamander Synergy rack. Haven't tried using a maple shelve yet but will. Highly recommend the Edensou...
What speakers have best bass for hip hop, and rock
Heard the Sjofn Guru QM10 a few years ago at one of the audio shows in New York and was really impressed with the bass. Best bass and soundstage I heard in a really small speaker and you can put them against the wall. Great for the kind of music y...
Recommendations for good jazz radio stations

Gallo ref 3.1 users please chime in
Lot of variables here to choose from to get the sound you want. I'm using the Audio Research VS110 and the SP16 pre along with Raysonic tubed CD168 and Rel Strata 3 sub with great success. The AR can be had for less than 5G's around here. The Rays...
Good speakers at low volume?
Branislav, regarding the Gallo's 3.1, no you don't need the sub-amp. There are even a couple of article I read that it hinders the performance. I'm running a Rel Strat III subwoofer but even if it's off, the speakers sounds fine. Your NuVista amp ...
Good speakers at low volume?
I was in your position at one point and live in an apt. Look no further than the Gallo's 3.1 ref. Very dynamic, sounds great at low volume and not too big. Had the maggies 12 before and though vocal transparancy sounded amazing, it lacked dynamics.
Best iPods for AUDIOphiles
Agreed. Get the 160 ipod classic, record using AIFF or some type of lossless and get yourself a portable amp. Do a search for headphone amp and you will find a lot. I have a portaphile amp and very happy with it plus the Shure E530 phones.
Vinyl to IPod
no software needed...just buy a new or used masterlink alexis ML-9600 which connects to your turntable and it will record on the hard drive...then copy the music to a CD..and from CD copy to itunes..
VPI SDS Newbie
i think with the added SDS, it is a significant improvement. you will notice better bass and separation of instruments. a far better step up than getting the 600 rpm motor which i have also. you can get a used sds around here for about 750 or so.
Tube amp location
Look into the "silencer" 12 volt computer fan. This is one of the lowest noise computer fan. You can also hook up an adjustable "wall wart" and adjust the voltage accordingly. I even put a lamp switch between the wall wart and the fan to turn my f...
