Spectron musician VS. Pass Labs Amp
@Genkides, you should try the PASS amp then. XA-30.5 can grip the woofers of Focal 1037BE speakers like no other. I did have lean bass syndrome with earlier X series. XA-.5 series in a completely different league. I haven't heard Spectron amps how...
Nakamichi PA-5 driving NHT 2.5i
Congratulations, you've discovered Nelson Pass. As mentioned earlier your amp is using his earlier design that was licensed to Nakamichi. There is a nice upgrade path from his later designs when you are ready for an upgrade.
Amp not enough power
First of all, are you certain the power rating has decreased over time? Have you had the same measurement when you first had the amp? Like someone else mentioned, it's within 5% of the rating. Maybe your amp was assembled that way.Power rating is ...
Laserdisc Dynamics vs Blu Ray
Most concert DVDs do have 24 bit PCM tracks. Some are 24/96, some are 24/192, and some are just 16 bits. Sometimes it's not labeled well on the box and you just need to pop the disc and select audio menu to see which tracks are available. DVD play...
Laserdisc Dynamics vs Blu Ray
I also recently gave away my Pioneer laserdisc player with 100's discs including a bunch of Criterion collection, hi bitrate DTS, uncompressed PCM, etc, etc. LD was good during its time before DVD came out. But the format cannot compete against DV...
Pass XA30.5 enough power for Wilson Sophia 2?
My speakers are Focal Electra 1037BE. They are more efficient than Sophia at 93dB/W/m. I often turn up the music to +90dB in 15 x 20 room without any problem. The needle that indicates bias current rarely moves past 12 o'clock position.
VTL 2.5 preamp not too shabby
I use Wurlitzer branded old RCA 12AX7 on my TL-5.5, and it sounds wonderful. I've also tried various other brands such as Telefunken, Siemens, Philips Mini Watt, etc, and RCA brings out the best for me. If you like your TL-2.5, definitely keep TL-...
Buy LED, LCD or Plasma
Is Plasma pretty quiet these days? I have one of the older Plasma from Sony back when Sony was still building Plasma based TV, and there is noticeable buzz when the TV is on. I heard the newer Plasma displays are quieter. Are they as quiet as LCD TV?
Lexicon BD-30 universal player
The extra boards are for BNC component output and something else insignificant that I don't remember. The power supply board looks identical, as is the main board with analog output stages.
Sony XA5400ES DAC Chip
In my case 95% of the break in happened in the first 48 hours. After a couple of days the sound was liquid, smooth and satisfying. As far as the warranty, I have never had any problem with any Sony products, and I've owned many. The build quality ...
Lexicon BD-30 universal player
RT-20 is a clone of DV9500 / DV9600. Check out the pictures of the internals.LexiconMarantz
Lexicon BD-30 universal player
Right, it's not first for Lexicon. RT-10 and RT-20 were identical to Marantz universal players down to the circuit board. Some things never change.
Sony XA5400ES DAC Chip
I would double check their warranty availability claim by contacting Sony directly. When I purchased mine I did contact American Theater too, but I saw a couple of red flags and I ended up purchasing elsewhere.
Sony SCD-XA5400ES-Best SACD for under $10,000
I'm impressed more on red book performance than SACD performance. Redbook playback is so impressive it makes you forget about SACD.
Old B&O vs. new Rega P1
Craig, try the forum at beoworld.org. There are a couple of resident experts with extensive part bin. You could also send the unit over for repair if you wish. It probably won't cost $400 to repair, but you will need to be handy, or find someone w...
