Denon DL-103 -- Was it a mistake?
Well I guess I'll find out when the 640P arrives. I never heard anyone say that it was bright before, after reading several reviews. I wish I would have known that beforehand, because my system is definitely not dark. I'd say that it's fairly neut...
Denon DL-103 -- Was it a mistake?
"What phono section are you using and what is the impedance that you are loading the cartridge at?"I'm currently using the phono section built into my NAD C 162 preamp (eek!) but I have a Cambridge Audio 640p in shipment, which should arrive tomor...
Azur 640p /w Denon DL103 and Clearaudio Virtuoso?
Good point. Well I think my preamp will have plenty of gain. When listening now, I never turn it up past 9 o clock...and that is at a blasting level. So I think I should be fine in that area.
Azur 640p /w Denon DL103 and Clearaudio Virtuoso?
Interesting. So a difference of 0.2 mV will make that big of a difference in the MC stage? The output and load impedance on the DL103 are both 100 ohms, which matches directly with the 640p specs.According to the 640p manual:"If your turntable use...
Can Sound-Smith tip sound as good as original?
Raul, just so I understand you clearly, you are saying that on a cartridge such as the Clearaudio Virtuoso, a retip job from a company like Sound-Smith is acceptable, but when you get to cartridges in the $2000+ range, it would be better to get a ...
Can Sound-Smith tip sound as good as original?
Jcarr, thanks for the great information. That's all news to me, and is definitely good to know. I'm not sure as to whether or not Sound-Smith changes the damper materials when preforming a cantilever upgrade, but I venture to guess that they do no...
Can Sound-Smith tip sound as good as original?
Thanks everyone. Well I have no choice but to get the cantilever replaced because I purchased it bent. Raul has said that he had his Virtuoso cantilever replaced with the standard aluminum one from Sound Smith and it sounds almost the same. I'm co...
Can Sound-Smith tip sound as good as original?
Buconero117: Do you have personal experience with Sound-Smith retips? Could you please elaborate? Thanks
Tracking error distortion audibility
Whoa, easy. It was more of a joke than anything. My gear is aligned properly. I'm glad you're happy with the Mint LP.
Tracking error distortion audibility
Oh and one other thing to note. The quality of the paper you print on does matter. I printed on standard copy paper, and certain environmental factors (humidity) can cause the paper to change shape ever so slightly. It's best to use thick, heavy p...
Tracking error distortion audibility
Audiofeil: I know you're in the business, but you are not going to be able to persuade me to buy one of your expensive protractors :-)I've used several alignment charts/printouts, and all indicate that my alignment is dead on, as well as overhang....
Tracking error distortion audibility
I think inner groove distortion is very common. I recently went nuts trying to align my cart perfectly (Clearaudio Virtuoso). I confirmed using Baerwald and "Lofgren B" that my alignment was spot on. Some say that increasing tracking force can hel...
Emotiva UPA-7 question
Valgolfs: I own the XPA-2 and it really is a great amplifier. Was a huge improvement over my two NAD C272 amps.
HELP Stylus Cantilever slightly bent to the left
I've noticed that the louder sounds, like loud vocals, will sound grainy and distorted. Just an overall lack in clarity across the whole spectrum. I've been thrown into an OCD fit over this, but who knows...maybe a lot of my albums just have groov...
Grain/Distortion heard on Inner 1/4 of LP
Why would the alignment arc be different on Lofgren B as opposed to Lofgren A?
