NCore vs. Ice -- single or separate cases
Tony, I strongly suggest you look into getting a passive preamp. You can acquire a very good one (again, very good at an elevated price point, not just very good for the money) for under $400 and the nCore or the Wyred4Sound amps for instance will...
Music Server now bane of my existence
Kijanki - You've essentially acknowledged my objection is valid. Look at all the qualifiers you have in your description (and you're clearly quite knowledgeable about the process). I didn't say that computer data backup was impossible - I said it ...
Music Server now bane of my existence
"but computer files will stay intact forever."You mean they will stay intact forever if you systematically back them up and store the files and hope no freakish glitch affects groups of files or a whole hard drive... Sorry, but this is the sort of...
MerrillAudio Veritas Reviewed at Dagogo
VicD: Two responses:1) The Merrill amp is based on a module (the NC1200) only sold to audio companies, not diy enthusiasts. This module is reportedly slightly better and higher powered than the NC400.2) This goes to show you the mark-up present in...
Music Server now bane of my existence
No noise - +1. Well said.Computer audio is certainly the future but it isn't quite the present.
How do I smooth out violins?
Stringreen - That's actually a very interesting post and it taught me something, BUT the problem in my system is only apparent in orchestral music. Solo violin in that higher frequency range actually sounds exceptionally good in that range, massed...
How do I smooth out violins?
As I'd mentioned, I was experiencing the same issues with high massed strings in the 1kHz-3kHz region, with my two systems, which have very different component classes and room environments. The only thing they shared is a redbook D source and now...
Questioning a/c isolation for digital.?
Ptss - You're talking about either conditioners or isolation transformers, right? Please clarify your post.
Miles Davis "Kind of Blue" drove me insane almost
Funny thread because I was just listening to "Kind of Blue" for the first time in years and really the first time on a good system. I put it on and my immediate observation was that it sounded just plain bad. That didn't lead me to the lengths you...
dvd player suitable as cd transport
The Lexicon RT2 is a $5k player. I can't imagine it wouldn't at the least have pretty low jitter and in terms of functionality plays SACDs if you bypass the DAC.
Is anyone using inline RF filters?
Hi Elizabeth - Do ferrite chokes (which I use) have the same functional effect as an in-line filter as the one I am linking to?http://www.arraysolutions.com/Products/nqnaclinefilter.htm
Synchro-Mesh
Bob99 - I just did a quick compare here on the Digital forum. Look for "Two SPDIF reclockers..."For some context, look at Doug Schroeder's review on Dagogo as well.A very good piece of equipment.
Class D vs Class A
Protestantism vs Catholicism. I predict Class D will nail 95 These to the wall and Class A will react with a vicious inquisition.
New Magneplanar Bass Panel DWM
I'm excited about the DWMs and will be buying them, probably in 2014. I have well-reviewed ported powered sub in my Maggie system and I think it sucks, frankly. I also don't think subwoofers are an important part of the musical experience, but am ...
Airpot Express - Upgrade amp or DAC?
Steve N (Empirical) - In your 1/13/13 post, you said that you'd done comparisons of various sources, including the AppleTV. How would you rate AppleTV vs the other computer sources and in general vs run-of-the-mill DVD players? Thanks.
