Is matching sensitivity for HT speakers important?
Very helpful. I will look into the Ascends. Thanks, guys.
Good Jazz/Vocal Reference CD Recommendations?
Stacey Kent - although I prefer the music on "Let Yourself Go," the recording of "Dreamsville" is just gorgeous.
Best of Etta James, Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan
Definitely get Ella with Duke Ellington. That recording years ago convinced me that I really could get into jazz. I recently rediscovered it after about 15 years, and it really is terrific. Also Ella with Count Basie is not to be missed. And I'll ...
sexiest sounding female vocalists?
1962 recording of Shirley Horn singing the now politically incorrect "Do It Again.' Off the Loads of Love LP. I don't ordinarily find Horn all that sexy, but damn. Otherwise, Helen Merrill in general and Diana Krall's "Peel Me a Grape" (though I s...
I Can't Stop Playing This Song
I don't find EMG quite up to TAN, but it sure is fun. I'd listen to either one 50 times before I'd make it all the way through Gaucho once. (Aja's still the peak.)"Things I Miss the Most" is my favorite on EMG. But I don't find it so much poignant...
What music would you like at your funeral?
I've thought about this question more than is healthy, I'm sure. One contender is Libera Me from Faure's Requiem. But I'm currently leaning toward one of Bach's Goldberg Variations. Either the Aria or Var. 13 or perhaps the final variation, no. 30...
Speaker advice for Mac MC2505
Thanks. It sounds as if it's no big sweat. Also and BTW, double checking the Europas, they are closer to 8 ohm. 4-5 ohm in the lower frequency -- I didn't read carefully.

Thinking about a DIY RCM, but I'm not going to do it unless I can do it cheap. Question is, how much of a vac do I need? You can get a new shop vac starting at $35 and the price of course goes up from there. Measured in "peak hp", they start at 1....
Rocky return to vinyl
All right, after having let my TT sit there in frustration for a few weeks, I went out and bought some LPs. Used, but seemingly in good shape. The first thing I put on was an album I hadn't know about -- Helen Merrill and John Lewis from 1976, i t...
Best tracks to "show off" your system
Mel Torme, "Too Close for Comfort" from MT Swings Shubert Alley. Great recording from 1960. Mel's voice, the band's horns.Carmen McRae, "Poor Butterfly" from Sarah: Dedicated to You. Starts a capella, textured and mesmerizing, then the band quietl...
Rocky return to vinyl
All right, while I have your attention, let me ask this. Let's say I too get hooked on vinyl. What are the obvious upgrades for me? Tone arm? Cartridge? I'm talking anything radical here. Let's say, under $500.

Ramstl: What is Project "Cheap Turntable"?

Okay. You've restored my hope. This feedback has encouraged me to keep tinkering. That's part of the fun of this hobby anyway, the tinkering. One thing I realize that I miss about LPs is the side -- you know, side A, side B. Sides had distinct per...
Jazz Recs for Classical Music Fan - Challenging
As someone who listened to classical before discovering jazz, I've brought with me a preference for jazz that emphasizes composition. I like improv, but for my taste too much jazz glorifies the improv solo at the expense of the overall composition...
Cambridge Audio Azur 340a??
Update: I just called Audio Advisor and they have a couple of them that they are trying out. They will probably carry the 340A, but haven't decided yet. In any case, it seems that SOMEONE in the states will carry it. My guess is it will go for aro...
