Luxman vs Accuphase for Harbeth 40.3 XD
I sold off my Luxman M900u for a Technics SU-R1000 with my Harbeth 40.3s. I think it is a fantastic match... between the Technics & the Harbeth, the detail and soundscape is so vast, but never at the expense of sounding natural and organic. I ...
Anyone who owns a Technics SU-R1000, can you answer a quick question
Thanks everyone! The SU-R1000 is an amazing piece of gear to be sure.
Anyone who owns a Technics SU-R1000, can you answer a quick question
@plinko  thanks! Sorry for the "40 on the volume knob" comment, I guess when I wrote that I had specifically posed the question to owners of SU-R1000 who would know specifics about this piece of gear and know what I was talking about. I had seen o...
Anyone who owns a Technics SU-R1000, can you answer a quick question
For those of you in the future who may be looking for an answer on this issue (low gain after calibrating the SU-R1000 phono EQ), this was a combination of poor manual instructions and user error. Apparently if you are using a LOMC you must set th...
Anyone who owns a Technics SU-R1000, can you answer a quick question
@designsfx yes, I did do the calibration and the effects are definitely audible so that’s working. The noise floor is there regardless of whether I engage the calibration DSP or not, but after working through the weekend on this, I think it’s just...
Anyone who owns a Technics SU-R1000, can you answer a quick question
Thanks, the SU-R1000 has an “Intelligent Phono EQ” which calibrates the gain, phase, and cartridge optimizer which is supposed to set the proper impedance based on the calibration. So in using that feature, there is no manual entering of gain or i...
Anyone who owns a Technics SU-R1000, can you answer a quick question
Thanks all, this is not a ground issue. The issue is that only on the phono pre channel (RCA, not XLR), when I turn up the sound beyond a certain threshold, there is a “hiss” noise floor not unlike a tube amp. It’s not a 60 cycle hum or a buzz or ...
Anyone who owns a Technics SU-R1000, can you answer a quick question
Thanks, sorry I wasn't more clear.  My question pertains specifically to the SU-R1000's internal phono preamp, specifically to anyone who may own one and can tell me if they have a similar experience.  I am moving from a Parasound JC3+ and separ...
The Curious Case of the Technics Integrated Digital Amplifier
I just replaced about $45K worth of amps and electronics with this $2700 Technics G700MK2 integrated. It’s the real deal.
Question about Cartridge Loading
My Pure Fidelity Stratos (based on the Gold Note Donatello) has a 45 ohm impedance and recommends loading between 400-500 ohm (figuring 450 ohm to be optimal?). However I haven’t really heard any difference between 100 ohm and any variation betwee...
Cartridge Loading for a phono pre amp
I found this thread searching for answers about load impedance on my new turntable and Parasound JC3+ preamp… and while 99% of the conversation/debate here is beyond my interest and understanding I can say that it was helpful in trying a few diffe...
Review: Pure Fidelity Harmony Turntable
I’ve had my Pure Fidelity Harmony for about 3 weeks now, and my early assessment is quite similar to yours, aside from the Maestro box criticisms and the occasional lack of PRaT on lesser produced records. In short I’m ecstatic with mine, but I wi...
Tube Rolling Advice for the Backert Labs Rhumba Extreme?
@hifiman5 and @milpai thanks for the updates! I'm glad to see this thread continue, as I think there are a lot of Rhythms and Rhumbas out there but they don't get talked about much in the forums. I've done a 12AU7 inventory recently given the even...
Tube Rolling Advice for the Backert Labs Rhumba Extreme?
This thread has been resurrected over the weekend so as the OP I figured I’d chime in with my progress over the past 3 years. I have owned a Rhythm 1.3 now since last August and it was a worthwhile upgrade to the Rhumba. I am no longer using the L...
Selecting Analog Gear Based on Music Preference?
@atmasphere  yes, agreed and thanks for the advice. I wasn't literally thinking in terms of "woah, that's a turntable built for chamber music!" but more along the lines of, "Hey, if I listen to a lot of music with heavy bass in it, maybe I should ...
