Changed amps - center image moved
Returned from Mexican vacation and the adapter arrived.  First I simply reversed polarity on one speaker...improved center image (using the XLR cables).  Then, switched to RCA IC's with the adapters (at amp only).  This fixed the problem!!  Perfec...
Changed amps - center image moved
All great suggestions and comments.  It is true that changing amps can/will change the sonic characteristics.  It is, in fact different.  Better in most ways.  I was simply wondering if anyone had experienced a similar imaging change and was able ...

Wow Al....many thanks for your interest and help!!  One interesting tidbit...when I had the Samsons, I used a Cardas XLR to RCA adapter at the DAC side (so to get more output via the AES outputs on the DAC & not need a preamp), thus could use ...

Thanks everyone!  The XLR cables are from Grover Huffman (very good cables).  I am using a ThetaGen VIII DAC (latest) using its internal preamp.  Speakers are GR Research Alpha LS (highly modded), speaker cables are Amadi's.   Again, the only two ...
Established Artists: Hidden Gems/Classic Rock
James Gang Bang (Tommy Bolin on this album)....to me, fabulous. Kinks - Sleepwalker. Bowie - Diamond Dogs. Lou Reed -- Rock & Roll Animal (top 10 live albums of all time IMHO). Pink Floyd - Animals.
Dunlavy SC4 Speakers
They sounded brittle (bright) with less than expected bass performance (using tube electronics). Honestly, they were horrible on certain recordings. After owning these, I had some Coincident Total Eclipse's.....night & day better. I would take...
Dunlavy SC4 Speakers
$2k max IMHO. If you cannot place on long wall, will not sound great (in my experience). I had to put on short wall and did not like.
Any opinions on the AMR Digital Processor 777 Dac?
I have not tried the AES / EBU due to my transport not having that option (output). My digital cable is quite light so there doesn't seem to be any "pull." I tried a RCA to BNC "hardwired" digital cable (Stealth Varidig) and it was quite good (and...
Any opinions on the AMR Digital Processor 777 Dac?
Yingtonggao: Like I said, I cannot comment on USB inputs / playback. However, with the BNC input, it is stellar. One other thing, at 350 hours there is still significant sonic improvement that will occur. Mine has 900 hours and continues to improv...
Any opinions on the AMR Digital Processor 777 Dac?
I cannot comment on USB since I use a traditional transport (Theta Compli) -- with a RCA ASI digital cable. In my rig, it is fabulous. Most of my CD's are standard resolution. I can tell you that they have never sounded better. Alison Krauss is in...
Any opinions on the AMR Digital Processor 777 Dac?
I see that Stereophile gave this DAC a Class A rating in this month's Recommended Components. Honestly, I think it should have been A+. Maybe I am missing something but the Empirical Off-Ramp and Grace m903 are A+?? Also, the Weiss 202 & Ayre ...
Any opinions on the AMR Digital Processor 777 Dac?
Just tried going direct to the amps (no preamp). I like this better. All the detail / dynamics / soundstage and tonality and better focus. Plus the volume level is more than adequate. Just seems cleaner w/o the usual "thinness" that typically occu...
Any opinions on the AMR Digital Processor 777 Dac?
I just hooked up my 777 last week. This is after ~550 hours of burn-in. I am using an Audio Valve preamp & Symphonic Line Kraft amps (will be trying the "direct" to amps option this weekend - remove preamp....I want to hear "exactly' what this...

Which Cables Are of Most Importance?
I recommend "source" cables first (digital cable, IC from CD player / TT) - next is speaker cables. However, you are only as good as your weakest link. My suggestion is to spend more at the source and then do speakers. Preamp to amp is next. There...
