New Member Question - Linn Speakers, Nakamichi, etc.
Facebook market place can't hurt, but take cash payment only.  And remember, a lot of people on FB don't have a clue as to the value of some equipment or will try and beat you up on the price.  Stick to your guns with them. I can also recommend l...

I stand corrected... I was always thinking that it was running DC.  I've deleted my post.
Can anyone with good headphones take a listen?
It could also be a HAM radio operator, CB (Citizens Band) radio, or a walkie talkie (which could explain the "I can hear you..") Hell, I remember 30 years ago, under the right circumstances I used to be able to eaves drop on a neighbor's 900 Hz c...
Tablet Gadget
And just think of how bad the noise is if there is any bounce when you tap the tablet.... You might need to add a couple gyroscopes and active stabilizers to it.   LOL   They are nice aren't they.  I bought one that has a floor stand and love it...
Another mechanical 60 Hz noise post
@effischer  -  No problem.  Glad to help. Just be careful.  It only takes 100 milliamps to stop your heart.  And at 100W into 4 ohms is 5000 milliamps.... If the plates are too loose or have delaminated enough, it is possible that some of the wi...

@parkergetdean  ok so a bad streamer would be bad at sending data consistently to the DAC? ... Yes... although I would use the words "bad streamer". Typically you get what you pay for.  A $90 WiiM Mini is a quality product if you are judging i...

While better buffering can help, better control on the stages after the initial connection to the streamer to reduce or filter out the jitter and superior timing/clocking circuitry has the biggest effect.  (at least in my opinion)
Eye Candy
@ghdprentice  Thanks, just ordered the stickers from Amazon. My two biggest offenders are a Schiit DAC on the main system with white LEDs that you can read by, and a modified Dared tube pre-amp on the bedroom system that has a blue LED that is s...

@parkergetdean  Not necessarily bad pixels, more like having the image being drawn in a jerky and inconsistant speed.
Eye Candy
I also love the glow of the tubes in a darked room... Until I turn on the rest of the gear and get blinded by those blinding blue and white LEDs everyone likes using. The blue and green painters tape I have to use to cover them kinda kills the aes...
bits is bits
@parkergetdean  I admit, this is what I thought: the streamer sends "data" to the DAC. Its job is to receive data and pass it to the DAC. It's not changing stuff, validating stuff other than 01101 is 01101. Are you saying it varies?  If we ign...
bits is bits
@parkergetdean  I am also a retired IT guy with 35 years of experience.  Without getting deep into the never ending arguement as to the "bits is bits", the big differences in the high to low end streamers are usually include: general quality o...
Cambridge Azur 851A Problem! Help!!
If it is going into auto shut off that quickly, and assuming that you don't have a short in your speaker or cables, there is a good possibility that one or more of the power output transistors is either shot or has come off the heat sink.  If that...
Another mechanical 60 Hz noise post
+1 with @ghdprentice suggestion. I believe that amp uses a transformer that has steel plates and the copper windings are wound around the plates.  (as opposed to a torridal type).  It is not uncommon that as they age, the plates start to separate...
Can anyone with good headphones take a listen?
Sounds like you are picking up outside interference.  Any chance you have a TV/Radio station close by?  Or 911/first responder dispatch broadcast antenna? I had a similar problem with the local 911 dispatch that I could pickup the dispatch calls ...
