An SACD Lesson Learned and the Marantz SA 1
Sony SCD-1 I still play my SACD's on the original Sony SCD-1. It's built like a battleship and sounds great. My concern is that the laser will go kaput one of these days and I'll be left with an expensive boat anchor.
What speaker is the most musical, one you never want to sell?
My favorites that I can't part with (yet) are my Altec Lansing 604-8G drivers in 620 cabinets that I built myself. Also my Tannoy Berkeleys' with the 15" Type HPD385A  drivers. Final...
Tough Nut Cones Isolation for loudspeakers, brilliant solution over spikes
Hockey pucks under each corner works fine for my Altec-Lansing 604-8G's in Model 17 cabinets.
the gateway product that turned you into an audiophile
1970, my brother's AR turntable.
Is there Tannoy Magic / Should I buy a pair of Tannoys as "accessory" speaker?
My Basement system is where I interchange various components including Vintage Original Tannoy Berkeley's from 1970 with 15" HPD385A drivers, new surrounds in 1997 and upgraded crossover in 2018. I think they shine particularly with classical and ...
Where Do I Go from Here?
I've been listening to my first generation Revel Salons since 2000. I've attended numerous RMAF audio shows since and have made various upgrades to other equipment, but have not heard any speakers I like better. I'm 76 so I guess I will just conti...
Best Covers
Whiskey in the Jar - Metallica  "Garage Inc." album. In fact the whole album is covers
Are you on or off? What say you?
OFF.  As in off-loading. I have way too much gear and LP's. My kids don't want it. My grand-kids don't understand it. So I have to sell it, which is a giant pain in so many ways. My wife asked me (more than once) why do I need 9 turntables, 6 sets...
looking for an integrated amp in the $1500 range
Pioneer A-27 integrated amp from 1978-80 recently serviced by a good technician will bow away anything else in the $1500 price range. First 30 watts pure class A, the rest class A/B up to 120W per channel. Finest example of the Golden Age amps and...
Speakers 10 years old or older that can compete with todays best,
Still love my Altec-Lansing 604-8G' in Model 620a Cabinets, Tannoy Berkely's and Revel Salon I's. They can match anything else I've heard at various Hi-Fi shows.
What speakers work with low wattage class A amps
Altec-Lansing 604-8G drivers in a 620 9cf cabinet. Classic that will sound good with 25 watts or less.
WHEN DID YOU FINALLY STOP...
Can't
LOUDEST Concert and Tinnitus
Led Zeppelin at the Fabulous Forum in LA 1975 tour. We had second row center VIP seats courtesy of my friend Scott of Casablanca Records. He provided me with ear plugs. I used them, but my ears still rang for two days. Great concert!
Do You Tell Others How Much You Have Invested in Your System?
I'm a retired accountant. I keep an excel spreadsheet inventory detailing my equipment. It includes manufacturer, model, serial numbers, purchase source, date of purchase and of course costs including: sales tax, S&H, upgrades and modification...
